End Faction "War" And Join Ranks?

Thanks for clarification! That’s some pretty bad writing in my opinion but if it’s how it’s written.

My opionion is that the faction war should continue since it’s integral to the source material and where the mmo takes place.

But I see valid points both ways.

That’s simply not true my friend. Anyone serious about the lore knows that the in-game events are subject to inevitable limitations. They haven’t actually been fighting over the same crappy mountain range in AV for 15 years, but the BG stays because it has to. No matter what the players did, the story goes forward with the factions having achieve distinct victories in the early days of WoW.

Well yeah, we always want the leader that committed the atrocity.
That doesn’t excuse the people committing the war crimes?

We still held people accountable for the actions they did, even if they were under orders. It’s been like that through out history my dude.

You mean N’Zoth doesn’t just resurrect every Tuesday in lore? But muh immersion. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not poking fun at anyone to be mean, I’m just amused by this image of raid bosses coming back to life in lore just to die again.

Because it isn’t and anyone who takes lore seriously will tell you that, but hell, don’t ask me. The two biggest publicly known lore nuts are on record on YouTube openly pointing out how Chronicles isn’t canon, but I know, it’s YouTube personalities, I hate using them as an example. But when you’re as big as Nobbel and your videos are consumed by such a large playerbase, you have to take them seriously when they go at Chronicles so hard.

It’s not what the majority of players want and have wanted over the last 15 years lol. Outside of crying for nerfs, players wanting to play with their friends on the opposite side is probably the oldest forum topic in the last 15 years lol

Definitely.

Faction conflict works if you make it the main focus, but then there should be less working together to fight the baddie in game.

Who is more serious than Nobbel and Pyro? Both on record bashing Chronicles as not canon.

RL =/= in game.

Pay attention to the NPCs, they want Sylvanas, the one who gave the order.

Only Kael gets to do that.

“Tempest Keep was merely a setba-GURK”

Still no hawkstrider, guess I’ll try again tomorrow

Are those YouTube people? I’m not going to take some kid with a camera’s opinion piece over official statements.

Yep. Just use your leader as a scapegoat, then you can commit as many atrocities as you want. Apparently.

I understand that, but they can’t write “We blame Rhuor the 120 level High mountain Druid he was there.”

They’re going to hold the committing parties accountable.

The most well known lore people in the game lol. If it was some average joe, wouldn’t bother.

I pity you if you think factions matter that much. If you wanna leave, then leave.

Or, you could grow a pair, and let other people have the freedom of choice. Meanwhile you could choose to only guild or group up with Alliance races.

The factions have been mostly insignificant since Warcraft 3. The horde and the alliance join forces constantly. If not for the majority of the story in the Warcraft universe.

Even the best all out War we’ve had, in pandaria, ended with Lasting peace between the factions.

You know what’s even more core to the game? Putting aside differences in order to work together

Yes, they are. Just to save some time here lol

Again, why a merc mode wouldn’t be good enough? You’d get cross faction play which what you want and while avoiding extra complications.

Why is that you can’t see past the faction conflict… why?

Faction conflict it’s not needed for factions to remain separate and distinct… why do I have to repeat it?

Uh… I don’t know about that. The introduction of the concept of the Sha helped, but I wouldn’t say it made sense across the baord.

No, it really isn’t. The issue is that nowadays we have characters having to conveniently make stupid mistakes in order to lose fights that would cause trouble if they won, others that forget what happened only 1 patch ago, and others that do a 180 turn and do things that not long ago they were against because of good reasons but suddenly, they make sense now even if many of the circumstances have not changed much and, on top of all that, we have to deal with the writers self inserts/best boys. This is only the tip of the iceberg, and this tip is the size of a pin. The faction conflict turning out to be garbage was simply a side effect of all of this.

You would have a point if they hadn’t already shown that they can handle it when they do try.

And again… faction conflict is not necessary for the factions to exist.

Never!

Might as well rename the game to World of Craft.

Yeah!

Without factions who will you blame for your shortcomings?

Because it’s literally been the reason from BLIZZARD themselves for the last 15 years.

You do understand that right?

Except that they haven’t? MoP was a decent attempt, but it ultimately went right back to “let’s all be buddies and kill the insane bad guy okay!”

Your healers :disappointed_relieved:

And the tanks

As vocal proponent for automatic faction affiliation being removed I am obviously in favour.

Pros:

  • All races will be playable across “faction” lines.
  • no more in-game language barrier.
  • Dev team would be in a position to unlock new species/racial options without needing to make two at a time. This allows for greater allocation of art assets.
  • No more split community for PVE grouping for raids or dungeons.
  • The ability to gank our in-game faction trolls without having to swap to a different alt.

Cons:

  • An angry minority that hasn’t really been paying attention to the WoW storylines since Vanilla.
  • A reduction in faction “pride”

Clarifications:

With all racial options being on the table. It is my opinion that it would allow the Dev art-side to spend more time developing more cosmetic options for selection and the like. Which is a pure win for us players.

Language barrier is really only a RPer thing. It saves on a few gold and allows you to hear the other side. Thing is I like to know what the other side is screaming at me. It adds to the flavour. Sometimes the shouted propaganda/counter-propaganda between rival sides is the most fun.

For those people who do a lot of raiding, a split population is the worst. How many people complain about waiting upwards of 2 hours for a tank to raid with? With relax boundaries that would disappear.

Honestly the lose of faction pride is near non-existent if only due to the awful story telling. Many Horde feel disenfranchised because they are “always” the bad guy but never full on evil. So people who want to be the “noble savage” are upset because they are the baddies. And the other side of the Horde are never full on evil.

The Alliance players in general seem disenfranchised for a similar reasons. Some want there to be a darker aspect to the Alliance but will never get that because “Lawful Stupid Paladin complex”. And the other side feels that the Alliance is the Horde punching bag because no matter what the Alliance are second stringers. Only ever reacting to things the Horde does.

For people worried about PVP ending it 100% would not. Humans are tribal and prone to in-game violence… and real world violence for almost any reason. Conflict will always be there. At least in a faction free zone trolls on your side who run around annoying you could get what’s coming to them.

And finally… the “Peacecraft” gem. Some people have seriously ignored the core of the games story for literally 15 years by this point. Every end story you have Alliance and Horde teaming up to take down a foe they individually would fail against every single time. The “core” of Warcraft is conflict and coming together to face impossible challenges. It isn’t Alliance versus Horde. That stopped being a thing at the end Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos.

Edit: Grammar.

The only argument those opposed actually have, none of it really based on anything of import.

But wait, according to Chronicles, we didn’t always team up to fight the baddie, some rando author decided that one faction or another clearly did it, negating anything the players did. Or some other rando stuff that has nothing to do with lore and the game lol.

If a mercenary mode would be me, a Highmountain Tauren, getting to queue up with Alliance as a Tauren, then sure. But I don’t want to play my Highmountain in a Night Elf cosplay to be able to group up with the other faction.

Because the conflict is why we can’t group up. The conflict is the explanation as to why people can’t just do dungeons with their friends on the other faction. The idea of tensions between the Horde and Alliance is the reason Blizzard likes to use to explain why we’re still separated.

You keep saying distinct but they can still be distinct even if we’re grouping up together. We experience the same raids and dungeons, so what if there just so happens to be two Humans and three Orcs running it? It also solves the egregious faction balance issue with so few Alliance wanting to do high end content.

Arenas already show AvA and HvH, so why not allow groups to be AH?

Prior to Cataclysm, the story was weaker. Vanilla we were murder hobos and the faction conflict was just PvP server focused (then later bgs). BC has really horrendous lore but the faction conflict still made sense. Wrath was a decent story, but it suffered from the Argent Tournament patch because it indicated how dumb the faction war was, though it still did make a little sense.

Cataclysm was pretty bad across the board story wise with a lot of cross faction helping, but then MoP showed that things could go well. Since then, it has been dreadful.

Many of the decisions made were because of the conflict. To make the Horde even look threatening to the Alliance after a civil war nearly decimated their elite forces, the Alliance had to be written as pants on head children to make absolutely dumb mistakes.

Same with Sylvanas’ retreat horn. Couldn’t have anyone send a letter about the Horde being overrun, we need that faction tension for Legion.

The idiotic decisions are made to maintain the faction conflict, it isn’t a result of them.

Factions can exist but cross play can also exist. If we’re helping NPCs and faction leaders, we can help each other.
