They’ve handled them by largely ignoring them or relegating them to a side plot while we deal with the actual threats. Every single time they’ve come to the forefront it’s been a disaster that doesn’t actually resolve anything, which makes it hard to take this as fact:
And that’s exactly what it should be at this point. Factions stopped being engaging a decade ago.
Because the two times they came to the forefront, they really didn’t. As I said, both were pretty much the same story of horde internal struggle. Even then, is not like they have to do another faction war expac to keep them separated.
It should exist for PvE content. We can help each other in the world already (even with the tagging system making that annoying) and we can already talk across the factions. Instanced PvE content is the main story of the game; i.e. we as players are fighting against this threat alongside various faction leaders of both sides. If I’m working with Jaina and Lore’themar to deal with Azshara, why can’t I work with Alliance players in that same scenario?
I still advocate for the straight removal of factions as the faction war and divide have become a joke. BfA was the best chance to try and stoke the flames of conflict and instead they further doused them. It’s beyond unbelievable that the faction divide even exists now, but I imagine they like to sell the faction specific merchandise. Blizzard has shown they don’t care about the story, so that can’t be the reason they are maintaining it.
Yeah. As it should be. “Deleting the core system” would be completely getting rid of factions altogether, which will never happen. Even though it seems like Blizzard has been trying to make it otherwise lately, the lore still matters, so the factions should stay. But frankly we’ve been working together in every single expansion anyway, so it would make more sense to just bring that into the gameplay. I’m surprised they’re not, because it makes Thrall/Saurfang’s whole “EnD ThE CyClE” thing completely pointless.
And never once having to fight the same threat meant both sides will be the same either. Factions are about each side being distinct, it doesn’t need to involve conflict between them all the time.
For you maybe, for many others and, obviously, the devs, it’s still a very important pillar of the game.
It’s completely backwards for an mmo in 2020.
If you’re going to have a divide, then remove PvE servers and go full PvP where a faction conflict based game should be.
Have your PvE safe zones for lower levels and central hubs, but outside in the world at large, no holds barred combat.
Otherwise, there’s no point in separating the factions.
You’re using the “it’s current year!” argument for a game that has been out since 2004?
Interesting hyperbole you got there.
Yes there is: Both factions being distinct.
Yes, the playerbase has proved to be very mature when means of communication between the factions have been available. I imagine the same level of maturity will apply for trading and grouping… specially as I’ve seen people outright saying they’d sabotage members of the opposite faction if they were to end up in groups with them.
I mean, people have also claimed they were going to kick Mechagnomes/Vulpera from dungeon groups if they see them. Are you really taking any of those individuals seriously? There are children on both sides.
If the eternal red-vs-blue faction war ever went away, it wouldn’t mean everyone just joins together in one faction. Individual civilizations would go their own ways and the politics and tensions would become more nuanced and complicated. But from a player PvE point of view, yes we’d just be rallying together a task force against the threat of the day from a wider pool of sources.
If it was just me, this is the route I’d prefer, but it’s not just me.
Starting the morning off with someone this obtuse is going to require coffee.
You can have them be distinct and let them group together without issue. It’s been done in several MMOs and has had no real affect on the game other than being able to play with people in any faction.
PvP is the only place different factions truly matter.
We haven’t actually worked together most of the time, just faced the same threats.
The end the cycle thing is pointless, I agree, they should use other storybeats.
The factions are still important though, so they definitely shouldn’t be a random tag on your character that is otherwise meaningless.
I disagree.
Yeah and none of those MMOs ever feel like they have factions or anything. Half of those is hard to even remember what faction you are supposed to be on.
Yeah, This already happens. Merc mode didn’t improve anything for the alliance because a lot if not most horde mercs just AFK or start doing random things so we lost quickly. They are just there for the quick honor.
I do think we should be able to talk though, but otherwise no.
How do I know that people are trolls? By… playing the game? And using the Internet?
Anyone sabotaging group content is also wasting their own time. I find it highly unlikely that there’ll be some massive problem with people doing this outside the die-hard faction RPers that seem to show up in these threads.
As if the Alliance hasn’t done the same. And maybe you should have been getting off that tree instead of just waiting around. And where was YOUR racial leader during all of this? Oh yeah instead of helping or defending she ran off to take care of “my love” because that one person is more important to her than her people are.
