Imagine a world (of warcraft) where you could put whichever secondary stat you wanted as the enchant for each enchant slot? For fingers, for example, you could put speed, or leech, or even STA if you wanted, or INT/AGI/STR. Or if you wanted to literally put speed on every enchanted item, for old school farming or just to be “ultra fast” everywhere you go.
I understand that there are always optimal options, just like with talents and gearing, but wouldn’t it be more fun, and simply more interesting, if these other possibly less-optimal (except maybe in certain oddball conditions) options were available?
Maybe you want to put leech in all 9 enchant spots, or speed, or simply want to stack some STA for a bit more boost. Why isn’t this an option? Why have all of the stats and choices been narrowed down so much? Why is homogeneity so important now? Transmog (the way we look) has SO MUCH CHOICE, but the way we ARE, gear and stats, there’s hardly any choice. Maybe I want to be like the flash, and have like 30% speed boost, at the cost of all of my other options? Hilarious, if nothing else. Or maybe I’m just tired of dying to aoe stuff or want to have more life soloing, and stack that leech, because it feels oh so good?
I wish our game-dev overlords would stop trying to control us so much. Starting to appreciate why the dragons are tired of the titans, if you know what I mean. Maybe Fyrrak was on to something.
Well, for Leech specifically, it was too strong of an option overall. They actually nerfed Leech for everyone going into 10.1.
Because it becomes harder to balance…
Certain individuals in Vanilla (including myself) went and enchanted our full Dungeon 0 sets (Valor) with every enhancement conceivable: Librams, Armor Kits, Enchants, temporary item enhancements, potion buffs, etc… You were able to literally buff yourself a whole tier with the number of additions you could apply…
Today? Either all the current enchants would get nerfed by a significant amount (such as 200 avoidance per slot, going down to 40 avoidance per slot) or simply removed altogether and replaced by more mediocre buffs…

I do miss stacking up on resistances though. Running around the Burning Steppes farming thorium while dragons impotently breated fire on me.
This is on the devs IMO. It’s the same way they keep nerfing classes to prevent workarounds in mythics for their affixes.
It’s not like any of the modern secondary stat enchants make THAT much of an impact now anyway. I don’t think stacking anything should do much beyond simply provide survivability or a unique perspective.
As for leech, it’s the same reason they nerfed the spore cloak for S3, they simply can’t be creative with their dungeon design beyond “slam aoe damage over and over”. it helps folks with world encounters, tho. They could adjust the impact in dungeons if they wanted, but that’s an easy option.
The real issue is trying to balance around both pvp AND dungeons AND raids AND world play. They really just need to shift PVP to a completely separate setup, so it’s no longer a problem for balancing.
They would nerf them all the same…
