Enchanting in beta allowed the conversion of Soul Dust into Sacred Shards, Sacred Shards into Eternal Crystals, and the ability to shatter Eternal Crystals to Sacred Shards. It was horribly broken as the conversions didn’t have any additional costs associated with them so you could freely convert from the most common enchanting material to the rarest without penalty. These broken conversions were largely removed and I appreciate that.
However, it seems no time was taken to adjust many of the recipes used while leveling the Enchanting skill so gaining skill levels is very difficult through some enchanting tiers as the system was designed with the conversions in mind. Around skill level 70, enchants start to require Eternal Crystals, then all of a sudden at skill level 75, enchants require 2 Sacred Shards and it flips back and forth like this several times to reach skill level 115. There’s no consistency and now that Eternal Crystals can’t be converted to, leveling the skill is absolutely disgusting and will cost roughly 150K just to power-level as of mid-December 2020.
Every other profession is a joke to skill-up in comparison. In the Beta, Enchanting was broken to the point of being the most useless profession the game has ever seen, now it’s broken to the point of being a profession gated behind a gold wall where only the rich can under take the profession at the beginning of the expansion as the dungeon drop rates were nerfed, even more significantly for mythic+ (you’re lucky if your group gets 1 piece of loot between 5 people now).
Please take a look at Enchanting material costs and how they scale through skill-ups, as it is, it’s terrible.
Not only that Eternal Shards on my server are 4000 a shot. A couple people with masses of money have set the prices and are buying out all competition rather than allowing it to go normal. This makes them the arbiters of who gets materials and who does not. We need the Sacred Shard combine to Eternal Crystal back and we need it by Tuesday at earliest. Not sure why it was removed. Seems like I won’t go past 77 Enchanting thanks to that.
And no. I will not buy a Token off you people to get the money I need.
Enchanting is stupid broken. Eternal Crystals are too rare to be able to level at all. The recipes need to be adjusted or the rate crystals are received from breaking down items needs to be increased. There is hardly a group you can get for gear that someone doesn’t beg you for what you get. Spend hours farming instances with pugs and come away with zero crystals. What benefit is that? Is that in any way a fun way to invest your time? No. Having all the trade skills interwoven and dependent on a broken system of a time sink is not worth the effort. Very disappointing blizzard.
I hit max leatherworking the day after I hit 60. I never even went out of my way to skin things either; just stayed in an area with lots of beasts being killed for a few minutes to bum some extra skins off non-skinner’s kills a few times.
I hit max level tailoring on an alt also very soon after hitting 60. All the cloth from this character plus all the cloth from him was enough to get me most of the way there; if that character were my main I would have hit max sooner.
The character that is a tailor is also an enchanter. I used the DMF to skip 70-75 enchanting. Good thing too, because at that range you need to use an eternal crystal for a chance at a skillup. Other than that it is simply too expensive to make it worth my while. I’m using the profession daily when it comes up, and do the enchanting box mission when it comes up, but that’s the only real source of eternal crystals for me.
When I finally do hit 115 (why not 100 like the other professions?) I will be able to enchant cloth, leather, and ore for the pathetically cheap cost of 1 dust each. That is the bottleneck for legendary crafting right now, and I really don’t see why it’s so ridiculous to level compared to everything else.
Once more and more people starting hitting max level enchanting, the price of the legendary crafted gear will drop to absurdly low prices, but that will be another topic for when it eventually happens.
I’m posting this and I don’t even have enchanting on my main character but something needs to be said and done about the profession. I feel bad for those that are running Enchanting and have too much invested through the years to want to switch to a new profession.
Just hit the wall with eternal crystals my self, and this is beyond silly for a profession to be stone walled this way given how easy it is for other professions to level. Fix enchanting ffs Blizzard.
It’s not that bad. At least on my serval eternal crystals are about 1500g if you buy on the right day.
I quick leveled my alt in enchanting and it didn’t cost too much. I needed 115 to get what I wanted (enchanted callous hide) and now I’m making gold on the enchants that are profitable.
The biggest problem with enchanting is that unlike every other profession I’ve done, you can mass enchant. It is one at a time.
It’s ok on my server, so it’s ok for everyone else, regardless of their situations.
I sold a crystal on the fourth most populated server for 9500 gold. The prices are down in the 4500 range right now, but that’s still extortionate.
Leather workers are making several hundred thousand gold a pop for high level legendaries skinned from mobs that other players are killing during world quest.
Very few people are making money off high rank legendaries. There are less than 10 listed rank 4 leather pieces in every single category. Less than 10. For a high pop server, that’s a crazy low number of sellers. Is it possible some servers have 100 sellers in both? I suppose. Still a low number relative to the number of players on the servers and TBH, if you claim you did have that many available I probably won’t believe you.
For rank 3 - less than 20 listed for each.
Rank 1 and 2 are not profit makers. At best you might spend 20-50K to make the item for 5 K profit. If you are lucky. Most rank 1’s are making a loss and a good chunk of the rank 2’s are as well. They’re also very very slow movers.
So no, enchanting is not unfair compared to leather working. Enchanters do not have to spend 400K gold - 800K gold to get to a profitable recipe. Much less, have to do it for EVERY recipe. Even at 4500 gold a pop you can max out enchanting at less than 200k gold for the eternal crystals. Is that a lot of gold? Yes. Leather workers crafting legendaries however are losing a lot more to level up though. The two aren’t even comparable on who has it harder.
And yes, if you get to say “enchanting is broken because of my server”, I get to say “it isn’t on mine”. No profession is going to work exactly the same on every server but when you are claiming something is broken, then yes what is happening on other servers do matter. It’s called the big picture.
Some stake in it? I have exactly the same stake as every other player. I just happen to disagree with you. Don’t make it into some conspiracy.
All professions have set up costs in learning the recipes. Enchanting is no where near the most expensive. Those who are learning legendaries have it much harder.
I have both leatherworking and enchanting. I know which I find easier to make money on. Hint: It isn’t legendaries. I wish it was.
You need to lighten up. I said I thought enchanting mats were expensive, now you’ve turned to accusing me of conspiracy theories because I made a joke about how you’re taking this way too seriously.
I’m not engaging with you on this topic any further because I don’t have the raw data to make a proper analysis of this. Strangely nor do you, so for either of us to claim any proper knowledge on the subject is silly.
Good luck with your defense of something nobody needs to defend.
LoL. Pot Kettle. You are not in a spot to throw stones.
Funny you won’t engage when someone actually can make an argument against what you are claiming. Which is not just that “enchanting materials are high” but also comparing it to how easy you seem to think leather workers have it. But hey, my pointing out that it isn’t so easy is my not having a sense of humor rather than my having a logical mind if you want.
FYI, If you wanted to you could very easily disprove me wrong. If you are so sure I am. Try the TSM website. Or the undermine journal. Both do have raw numbers that can be accessed quite easily for every server. I don’t recommend it because you’ll realise just how hard making money on legendaries is if you don’t have a lot of capital to throw at it. No matter what server you choose to look at.
I do have a decent amount of capital. I leveled enchanting in one night. I could have done that even if crystals were 4500g a pop. Even 9000g a pop. I am a long way off leveling legendaries. They take so much more gold and the losses you have to take are huge.
