Enchanting invites add-on ban?

Thats your words, not theirs … lets try this again I guess. This is an SS of the ToS so you do not confuse whats in the ToS vs what is just Opinion:

further definition of “automated control of a character in a Game” can be gleaned from the following API documentation:

Neither the API for chat nor the API for invite are listed as protected. Thus it is fair use at any time and thus not considered automation in the aspect of botting.

The term Third Party Programs has historically meant programs running OUTSIDE of the wow.exe, not addons that are executed within it.

And before you pounce on the section that does say “granting you and/or any other user an advantage over other players not using such methods;” in 1. Cheats this historically does not pertain to APIs accessible to the player base as it would otherwise describe most if not all Addons.

Look, Firby, I understand why you are being so offensive about this … you really hate new things. I can totaly see how ASKING for something in trade chat and then GETTING that exact same service FASTER than you would normal might be a huge inconvenience to you. However, it is NOT in-fact breaking ToS.

There has been a LONG history of whisper invite addons. In most cases they ask someone for the word inv or use a code word like the name of a guild … but lets be real, it could be anything and this automation has existed for a LONG LONG time. Me applying it to trade chat is only partially novel … and unlike the auto-guild invite addon, mine and others like mine are actually providing the exact service someone asks for in trade chat.

The ONLY leg you have to stand on is the fact that sometimes bad enchanters go AFK and that is annoying. Everything else is flawed opinion of it not being fair because you said so … even though nothing is stopping you from using the tool as well. For a short while before this idea was opensource it might be SLIGHTLY unfair because in order to compete you would have to know how to use the API to achieve the same effect. But atm, even that is not the case.

Another case where this type of API was used for gain was in Classic re-release when mages where selling ports in Kargath. Every single horde who bound their hearthstone in Kargath for MC and BWL w/ World Buffs knows what im talking about. If it wasnt against ToS then it sure isnt against ToS now.

I wish you the best of luck … I have personally been reported hundreds of times by now and have seen no action. This is because its not against ToS. Recently I have had level 1s from other server roll toons on Failina to come report me … and still no action has been taken.

Believe it or not, for the last 2 1/2 years I have been looking forward to talking to Bliz about this to ask them where the invisible line is … but the only response I have gotten is their silence and no changes to the API in regards to my actions. After that period of time, after multiple banwaves for IsBoxer and others … I can only assume that that my code and my interpretation of the ToS is accurate.

Hell, for as long as I have been doing this the chance of me having enchanted a Blue’s alt is pretty high atm.

you don’t even play Classic lol

While I understand your instinct to defend your work and your reputation, you really have no obligation to repeatedly respond to this person. Your add-on clearly doesn’t violate ToS and the OP is obviously a massive Karen with an axe to grind. Like others have said, they’re most likely upset because they can no longer compete for people’s business without it. I can understand the sentiment a little in that you really no longer have the option not to use an add-on that was previously unnecessary if you want to keep up. But, there was a time when add-ons like DBM and GTFO, and other almost mandatory add-ons today, didn’t exist. And when they became available, loads of people flocked to the forums claiming that it removed player faculty from the game and should be banned. You can see how that worked out for them. I guess what I’m saying is ignore the haters, you have a talent and I for one am grateful you chose to use it to make my WoW experience more convenient. Carry on.

Oh, I am not fighting for my work or rep. Rather, I see value in arming people w/ knowledge rather than zealous opinions w/ no basis of fact. Some of the haters are lost causes but many people come here w/ one opinion and leave w/ another … I am here for those people.

Fact > Opinion … and I have the facts as I have been doing this the longest

should we ban auto raid invites too ?

Tecnically they could be banned too, but I hope not
The fact these work while afk = automation
and “complaining about addons now”? Uhh, this isnt new… and blizzard has intentionally broken many addons themselves.
I myself turned off “faster auto loot” in a couple addons from claims it may bypass something and result in a ban

they legit work in the same way that raid inv does, and are in the game idk since cata I think ? yeah they aren’t going anywere

and you believed in that?

I admit the method is the same, thoughf or a different purpose. Also one works in PM, the other in public channels.
If you msg someone “inv” you want them to invite you, obviously
try applying that to a public channel
These are unsolicited automatic invites+msgs.
And do we really need to go through this again about something not going anywhere because it’s been around for x # of years?
Multiboxing software was time and time again fought, and blizzard said it was fine… not since cata, but further back… until what, BFA? Shadowlands?
It got too big for its britches (80 accts controlled by 1 person for example)
If this is what auto-invites are coming to, the time is coming.
Personally, I’d prefer they just draw the line between private msgs and public channels.

people used that to sell summons to pick up world buffs in classic, again the same thing

on our server only the invites were automatic, and only when you msged them… not public
They advertised, we msged them. Sometimes the invites were automatic with “inv” etc.

now change “inv” for “LF Enchanter”

You know someone is on the losing side of an argument when they completely ignore parts of your posts and sentences, and pick only what they want to argue about
Last time… the invites were done from private msgs… not public channels like this enchanting stuff.
Reading is funDUHmental

my friend there’s wayyy more impactful addons running right now then a simple auto inv

so·lic·i·ta·tion
/səˌlisəˈtāSH(ə)n/
noun
1.the act of asking for or trying to obtain something from someone.

Saying in Trade “LF Enchanter” is a form of solicitation

maybe on your backwater server … on Herod auto invites for world buffs where also done in /trade /world and /lfg (i know because I was one of the ones doing it for Tribute Runs)

so where portal invites in Kargath

so … like you putting me on ignore for example … or ignoring half the arguments people are making that go against what ever fantasy world is going on inside your mind.

feel free to not reply … thus proving me correct once again

the copium on display here is astonishing

literally all enchanters use it

100% definition of success

blizz is OK with it, your personal opinion is 100000% irrelevant.
