Are we going back to where you have to find the enchanter by spamming chat, open a trade window, and put your item in the trade window…in order to get it enchanted?
Can’t remember if AH enchants were after 1.12 I think they were after. Someone remember?
Well after, and impossible without scrolls which are crafted using inscription, a profession not introduced until Wrath of the Lich King.

Enchanting in vanilla was fun and profitable if you had the hot enchants!
I was 1 of only 2 people on alliance on my server with the I think it was +22 int weapon enchant…the other person offered it for tips which made it worthless. The most valuable part of enchanting is DE things and sell the mats on the AH for some other enchanter to spend all day spamming for 2 silver an enchant. It only take 1 other person with it to bring your profit to tips
I dunno, I remember asking all of the enchanters to use their mats too and it cost a bunch. Even if they used your mats it seemed like the few enchanters who had the rare patterns worked together to keep the price up, mats or no mats. That’s just what I remember on my server, sounds like you had a different experience.
That probably was true on some servers…it only takes 1 person on your server to not cooperate to ruin it for all. I mean most crated gear for those professions is sold below cost while people level up. It’s only the max level stuff in most professions that sell for a profit at all. Well except bags and healing pots.
What about group disenchant and/or de all items from level 1?
Was Definitely not in vanilla, in fact as a raider I used to stock pile my bank with epics drop mining for level 1 enchant de it all and relevel mining.

I was the first person on Dunemaul to unlock the Flask of Supreme Power in TBC, I made INSANE gold.
Then someone else got it and started doing it for like 5g, ruined it.
I’ll have my alt be enchanting so I have someone to send to get mats for free.
Create a bank alt…level to 5 and get enchanting. They can disenchant all item levels.
You can’t send them BoP or any of your old BoE that you had equipped. Meaning all the stuff that will DE to the best stuff an alt can’t DE for you.
I made plenty of profit doing crafting (and portals/food/water on my mage) for tips.
Maybe your server was just a bunch of jerks who don’t tip.
A wonderful profession to have if you’re great at customer service.
