just curious, before Dragoflight expo, has anyone disenchanted a purple item and received a blue reagent before?
Not exactly the same, but in WoD you could have multiple outcomes DEing items that were dependent on your skill. Blues could DE into Dust or shards, purples could DE into whole crystals or into crystal fragments which 10 could form a full crystal.
It’s the same philosophy, reward higher skill with better outcomes, although the current market forces dictating an insane difference between the value of a blue and purple mat make it look more stark.
it’s kind of ridiculous how hard it is to get purple crystals. I have the entire disenchant tree maxed out… can’t even make most enchants because of it, and I still don’t get purple crystals half the time. They well for 3k gold, so at least I make something… but damn.

I’ve been curious about this too. I have 4 Resonant Crystals so far. From what I can tell, you need to DE something that’s at least iLevel 375-ish - but that’s just a guess. I haven’t done any formal tracking.
I’m maxed out disenchanting, and my guild passes raid drops (389+) to me to disenchant. Out of six items passed to me yesterday, two of them yielded 0 resonant crystals, which is absolutely depressing and feels like I’m letting the guild down when it happens.
The capstone DE ability, which has a small chance to net extra crystals from weapons, seems to have activated once in at least a dozen weapon disenchants, and gave me a total of 4 crystals.

I would say it’s cause the item starts off as a blue and depending on your ilevel it scales up and becomes purple. Which doesn’t mean much anymore anyways cause they are so plentiful.
But if it’s purple then it should be an epic gem and not blue gems. That’s just Bliz tossing out more things to get players to play longer but that’s bound to back fire.
Yeah, this feels beyond depressing. Not sure I ever had a crystal from disenchanting. Plenty of times blues are giving me 2 dusts. COME ON, at least give me a shard!?!

I’ve unlearned enchanting, made my peace with the gold I lost and Blizzard can go kick rocks.
I went max disenchanting because I thought it would be cool to get the little disenchant drops and be able to get more materials to sell. I am regretting it as I have a few hundred knowledge points invested and still cant make anything high level 3* quality, even with the 5* enchanting rod. I also mostly do M+, so I’m just boned when it comes to getting the disenchant items, forgot about that when I spent all my spec points while leveling and before I knew they couldn’t be reset. M+ mobs should be able to give these to players who have the specialization, even if mobs don’t usually drop loot.
I was pushing my professions hard when DF came out. I made sure to do all my weekly quests, the fair, rare mobs, one-time gains, etc. I’m still not able to craft anything significant, even if I could the mat prices are so high that the profit is minimal at best. I got lucky on some BoE drops in season 1 that held me through to this season, but I guess I’m just hoping to get some BoE raid drops to sell again and being frugal with the gold I have.
