As we approach season start and get into folks want bis enchants for gear we have multiple impending problems:
Profaned Tinderbox (and Ringing Deeps Ingots) drop rates are lower than even when glowing titan orbs were at their worst. Tinderboxes are needed for the radiant ring enchants, weapon enchants and gear crafting and yet the only reliable way to get them is a guaranteed 1 from a delve.
To compound this the radiant ring enchants will be BiS for most and yet all 4 (along with the Authority of Radiant Power weapon enchant) are all <1% drop rate and one of the 2 dungeons they are available from is a non seasonal dungeon and the Authority chant is priory only. Likewise the alternative of the cursed ring enchants are also all <1% drop rates from the nerubian dungeons.
And finally the lurking beast is the extreme hike in dust requirements and the lack of ability to shatter blue or purple crystals into dust. Greens are in far shorter supply in TWW with WQs upgrading to blues much quicker at 80 and the only green crafting gear being profession items leaving drops as the primary source. At the same time patterns have gone from dust requirements of 0-10 dust requirements of DF 30-75 in TWW along with adding ranks to dust quality. At this time the section of the enchanting knowledge tree that is supposed to increase dust yields only barely ups the upward limit but does not increase the low end, a solid 35 point investment merely give the chance to get 6 dust but frequently can give you only 1 dust back per green with no way to further alter this yield.
If these issues are not resolved in some manner it would seem we are staring down the barrel of an extreme mat and pattern shortage going into the season that will see the cost of fully enchanting gear being out of reach for many folks. While this may not concern everyone consider that unless you completely avoid any pugs and your entire group is paying these inflated costs you are far more frequently going to see people missing these stats or waiting until much later in gearing to get them in your groups making your respective content harder.
I’d propose 3 simple changes to remedy these:
Vastly increase Profaned Tinderbox/Ringing Deep ingot drops as what done with Glowing Titan Orbs previously (and guarantee some from delves/weeklies).
Up the drop rate of the Radiant/cursed patterns signifigantly for m+ at least and add Radiant authority to the dawnbreaker loot pool.
Let multicraft(or resourcefulness) affect disenchanting if you spec into the designated disenchanter OR vastly reduce dust costs OR add a shatter for crystals to create dust. At minimum here I believe some change should be made to the Designated Disenchanter knowledge tree to increase the minimum yield as there is no reason a 35 point investment to up yields still results in 1 dust returns frequently.

If you spec into Designated Disenchanter and Uncommon it increases both the quantity and quality of Stormdust you get.
The difference between my enchanter who is specced into it and the ones that aren’t is quite large. The ones that aren’t almost always get Quality one materials.
What they should do is decrease the stormdust requirements for weapon enchants. Going from 0 in DF to 50 in WW is a huge part of the problem.

It only increases the upper limit not the lower. You still frequently can get 1 dust disenchants maxed in Designated Disenchanter.

I felt like I was the only one seeing Profaned Tinderboxes as being a huge problem once raid/m+ content drops. There are only 1500 of them on the AH and that’s region wide! No way this is sustainable when people start actually needing high end enchants. Unless there are people hording thousands of these, there’s no way that 1500 is going to supply the entire region. They WILL HAVE to buff it soon…
Yeah, I decided to try and actually engage in enchanting this expansion, but even the entry level stuff seems so out of reach. Usually, I had a healthy amount of enchanting mats from just playing the game, but this time it feels like everything requires 10x of what I have even from the very start. I started regretting that I didn’t go into DEing tree and sold reagents on the AH.
The rarity of the recipes is also discouraging. In DF I could unlock sophic devotion just by spending enough knowledge, but this time it seems all important patterns are hidden behind low drop rates.
I’ve started thinking of dropping Enchanting altogether and picking up Alchemy or something.

I’ve heard alchemy is even worse…in terms of discovering new recipes at least. So maybe just look into it a bit before switching haha.
The dust problem is definitely going to become almost an order of magnitude worse once the season starts. The AH price of R1 crystals is already pretty close to R1 and R2 dust, and R2 crystals aren’t that far off either. Once M0s are available with daily lockouts and epics start getting DE’d far more often, dust will probably pass crystals in price. This simply should never be the case.

With expenses on dust and the bad design of getting any a long with the bis chants having a terrible drop rate it really is a headache and that makes enchants cost so much to even make and low levels.
75 dust for an enchant just for the rank one is like 8-10k
I’m bleeding gold trying to level up enchanting. I had to bite the bullet and buy the cursed mastery and radiant power pattern… I’m gonna hate when I need to rechant my weapon…

The amount of dust needed to cast one item is too high and the amount of items we are starting to need that DO NOT come from enchanting is starting to get annoying.
After 2 days worth of both Thaumaturgy on my Alchemist and Waxy Bundle grinding on my Dracthyr, along with all the greens I acquired (about 9 total across those two days), my mage got 215 Storm Dust total.
I checked out of curiousy on the AH to discover that I was holding 31,678 gold’s worth of Storm Dust that I got free through my own efforts.
The pricing is absolutely insane. But I refuse to sell any of this stuff until I’ve got my enchanting skill to maximum. It’s currently standing at 80 now after today. So I need like… 450 more Storm Dust…
I have all the ‘BIS’ enchantments for my main going ahead into raiding, save for one, which is currently going for 187k on the AH right now… but I’m grinding for it on my own.

We need shatter in the game. Period.

And not the shatter they have that uses mats for a poultry buff.
Looks like there may be a fix coming soon. Fingers crossed. Kind of depends on how much dust you get per shard, but it will help at least a little bit.
Glad you like the spec so much.
Nerfed and invalidated with the new shatter change. Hope you don’t mind losing those KP points on a soon to be useless spec, I sure do.
I wouldn’t say like. More that it was a necessity at the time.
