Enchanting and Inscription

Whoever told me that both Enchanting and Inscription makes good money was clearly being a troll…

I’ve made only 300 gold the last month on the AH, and that is with me even undercutting prices on the AH.

So lesson learned, Enchanting and Inscription should be avoided like the plague if you wish to make gold.

Incorrect. They do make a lot of gold.

BUT.

You are very, very, absurdly late to the party. Everyone is trying to sell everything off for the next expansion and nobody is buying.

Try again in Shadowlands.

Also it’s much better to be an enchanter and a tailor to make gold.

<<<<< Goblin.

So, Enchanting and Inscription are indeed MAJOR gold makers. However, aside from being “late” to the party, you are missing key components to make the professions very succesful.

  1. Tailoring. This essential self-sustaining profession single handedly feeds everything you need for Enchanting and then some.
  2. You need to have a clear understanding of the markets you are trying to break into. Both markets are saturated with people that frankly, have already figured out what you only now discovered.

But do not fret. You can still make substantial gold, you just need to know how to set up your products and most importantly, diversify.

I highly recommend jumping into: Sub-reddit for goblins
This community is extremely friendly and helpful.

Best of luck my friend, and don’t give up on the professions, they truly are the best money makers along with Alchemy.

Edit:

As a tidbit:

I am currently making my bulk of enchanting gold from 3 things:

  1. Bracer shuffle for mats (search on the reddit I said.)
  2. Ring Enchants (sell amazingly fast)
  3. Weapon Enchants

The last two require you to play a bit to unlock Rank 3 crafting. Hope it helps.

Every time an expansion is near it’s end, all professions, including gathering start to struggle to sell off any of their stock. I am struggling right now.
A month ago I was selling more stuff, for higher price, and now everything is 50%+ less and not selling. On my server enchanting mats sell better then the enchants, so I don’t bother with that anymore and instead sell the mats.
Same with other professions. I just level them for my own use and the fact I am in denial that I can make money out of it, which I don’t on my server. I was able to sell the contracts alright, and was unwilling to put in the work for the glyphs that did not use current xpac mats but if I was I would have made decent profit.

Everything is getting dirt cheap near the end of the expansion. You also have people desperate to buy the Brutosaur before it goes on the Black Market Auction House, so they’re selling everything they can to get there. They’re all working against each other for the same goal

I made a million gold with inscription in the first couple of months of the xpac.

I could barely make 300, how in the heck?

You say that like people still aren’t raiding and doing dungeons…

Sure they are. Not near as many as there were earlier in the expansion though. The market always dips late in the last patch of an expansion.

You’re late. I made tons of gold earlier in the expansion on my enchanter.

I mean, you can ignore what folks have said and give up if you’d like to though. Less competition for your fellows on Moonguard.

There is a bunch of stuff that people used at the very beginning. Darkmoon cards and contracts were huge sellers back then.

I sold so many compendiums in 8.2… those things sold like hot cakes for awhile.

With all things profession related, it is server dependent to a certain degree. That said, both of those professions are on the most profitable side of the game normally.

It is important to note though that while it is possible to make lots of gold currently, it is the end of the (very unpopular) expansion and sales are lower. Fewer people are doing end game content that would require lots of enchants or inscription consumables. Glyphs are good sellers but requiring some babysitting.

What items are you selling ? How do you know what the specific thing you’re selling is profitable? Where are you getting your base materials? Do you have the enchanting tool of the trade? How big is your server? Is it an RP server or no? Does your server have lots of raiding guilds or only a handful? Are you using an addon? Are you using a spreadsheet?

Both of those professions are moneymakers. Heck next to alchemy they’re probably the best moneymakers in the game and have both earned me millions. The problem lies either in something you’re doing or maybe in your server.

OOF, It was still hot cake 3 months into 8.3 as well. It was brutal to keep up with demand honestly.

At the moment the best things I see are consumables for people pushing solo-5 masks. Drums, Flask, unbridled and Sanity Food still moves very, very well for me.

Then like I mentioned, Ring enchants are still rolling at 400-ish gold each. The trick is to see if there is an emissary up that awards Rings or the corruption rotation has a popular corruption as it will make people re-chant/gem stats to fit the new corruptions and secondary caps.

Sadly, Beta going live is normally the universal warning of “fire sale” starting. The next few weeks you will see massive amounts of Guild Bank cleanups going up on the AH and people trying to get rid of all those bad investments as well as all the BoE purples still rolling around.

I shift into Bags for Alts and such, those still net good profit that help keep the lights running so to speak.

However, for the most part, this should be a time to start effectively preparing for the next expansion so you are not caught by surprise and you can get a jump on those first crucial weeks of inflation.

1.) The armor, weapon, ring enchants as well as contracts.
2.) I have a friend who gives me a boat load of materials, since he doesn’t use them and he doesn’t mind gathering them since he always has a lot of leftovers
3.) I do have the enchanting tool of the trade (though I’ve rarely found a use for it except for the DE ability it has)
4.) It’s Moon Guard
5.) See 4
6.) There are a few good raiding guilds on Moon Guard.
7.) I need an addon? I thought the new AH did a lot of the work for me?
8.) Uh, isn’t that going a little overboard? I’m not playing EVE Online or trying to balance a company’s checkbook here, why would I need a spreadsheet like I’m some professional accountant?

The time to buy consumables is over. I was spending 10 K/day to do M+ and raid

Now I’m not

This is near the end of the expansion, so no you aren’t going to make a lot of gold on the auction house. You should have made more than that though because every once in a while I post weapon enchants and I can usually make 1k gold on each.

If you are on moonguard trying to sell these, it is very likely you are being constantly undercut rather than items aren’t selling. And no you don’t need an addon or spreadsheets.

SO then what do I do if I’m constantly undercut?

I would personally just sell something else. You have the two professions which undercutting is rampant because the deposit fees are minimal to lose.

Otherwise, you can just sit and camp that auction house and monitor your auctions for hours each day so your items are first to sell. Not sure at this point in the expansion it would be worth doing that.
