Enchanging - Working as intended?

It’s been ages since I’ve leveled enchanting. Most of that time was during TBC, so my memory may not serve well in this case…

At any rate, I ditched my Runed Copper Rod after making my Runed Silver Rod, as I recall the latter working for low-level enchants. Well, I can’t perform low-level enchants with the silver rod. Is this working as intended from Classic? Or is it a bug?

It’s not the end of the world, but keeping those rods will take up valuable bag space.

It’s working as intended. They changed it later on, I think in early TBC or the pre-patch, so that each new rod counted as “lesser rods” too.

Correct, it was updated in patch 2.0.1 for enchanting rods to count as lesser rods. In vanilla you were required to hold all rods in your bags if you wanted access to all enchanting recipes.

Yeah, 2.0 was probably already out when I started to play.
