Again, roll back to my original post. You combined the database changes in with their server/client changes. The dev watercooler tells us that they are going with the modern code so they do not need to make tons of changes.
There is a separation in what you are calling frankenpatch and watch you claimed is getting frankened in your post.
My position on a need for a patch is an additive. It goes in conjunction with you frankenpatch. Both which are irrelevant to the point. The server and client are not as franken are you lead on in your post that started this.
I didn’t use the “franken patch” term the same way others were though. Someone else pointed that out accurately. You being picky about that is laughable at this point. I mean, really, drop it. I’m not changing my stance on that.
You are also now basically saying “I have my stance on it and here’s why but I don’t need to prove anything”
But I don’t need to believe you.
You just keep spouting nonsense. That’s fine, go for it.
Umm, I have repeatedly said, call it what you like. I know what you mean by it. Bothers me none. The client/server however does not fall into that category.
Yet you keep pulling the conversation from alpha/beta to labeling how they are handling patch versioning.
I, the almighty Pez, have already told you that BETA will begin mid to late May. So we have another month to wait.
I know, I know… it’s not blue text. Well feast your eyes on the fabulous Devious Deblueificator. Designed to make my blue text look drab white… it adds mystery to my reports… errr… predictions.
So again… BETA… May 21st. Mark your calendars, and start spamming your email boxes May 17th, when the first invites g out!
Forget email. If you get into the Beta, it shows up in the Blizzard Launcher. Emails have an unfortunately high chance of being phishes instead of legitimate, so anyone who gets a “Beta Invite” by email should ignore any links in it and go straight to the Blizzard Launcher to confirm.
Nobody right now can say whether there will or won’t be an FnF Alpha or a more public Beta.
On one hand
Its known content.
They’re not attempting any balancing.
Its a restoration to return to a given point that they can use reference clients to check.
On the other hand:
They are making code changes, to incorporate the reorganisation of the content.
There are changes to things like lighting and models to suit the new platform.
There are probably sections that have to be written again from scratch because an element isn’t in their code base etc.
Simple answer: No-one can say either way for sure.
Therefore all answers are “I think” on this topic.
Personally I think they’ll have a month or two FnF Alpha with picked out people, and then a 2 week ‘more open’ Beta with a single server to test stress levels. Whether that process starts tomorrow, next week, or a month from now, is anyone’s guess.
Well it’s nice to see a reasonable comment about it from you, because while I’m of the belief that they won’t stray from their usual testing process there always is the possibility that they will do it differently.
I don’t understand the hostility in this thread when it is about something completely intangible and unknowable. Yes, I was part of the arguing but this thread has been nothing but extreme mental grilling.
Don’t get me wrong it was a nice way to pass the time at work but let’s not do this again.
I find it kinda funny that even this post which basically says “we are playing it but you can’t at least for now” is more popular than the AV announcement
Tells to me that this community is far from as toxic as some people claim it to be.
