Employee Alpha Testing for WoW Classic

If I had to guess there will be a beta, but as pointed out earlier, both the client and the actual game are both well tested. It won’t be a long one. I wouldn’t be shocked if it were less than 4 weeks.

I’m pretty sure there’ll be a beta, but it doesn’t stop me from clicking the drop down on the BN every day - just in case.

I’m actually a little bummed about this. It’s great to hear that there’s progression, but why do we have to hear about it from leaked sources? This is the type of communication the classic community dreams of. Small, consistent updates to give us an idea of what’s going on with the project. But I feel like this update was only prompted because of a leak.

I’m curious what, if any, restrictions you have on sharing information with us. I know there’s a few nerds like myself that would appreciate simple updates like “found a bug with energy regeneration…stay tuned!”

I don’t think that every update needs to be sticky worthy. One thread with an ongoing list of smaller updates to feed our addiction and keep the hype train going would suffice.

I would’ve loved to hear your plans/goals for an internal alpha weeks ago. Directly from the source.

Keep up the hard work. I really do appreciate what y’all are doing. Looking forward to the next update.

So… are you enjoying it? Are you having fun?

Classic is not a normal release though. Its a restoration, not a new product.

You mean “Why do all these people try to pry into the game’s internal development cycle that we had no intention of announcing, then make all these hype claims, then require Bornakk to come out here and settle everyone down”?

That’s not Blizzard’s fault. The Classic team has been constantly sharing updates and plans with us over the last few weeks. Its a breath of fresh air that Bornakk even responded about this instead of leaving the streamers to claim authority.

This has me really excited - I have not had any serious fun this expansion, and barely can get myself to Mythic Raid as is (I participate only for completion sake).

I really hope there is an open beta soon - I’m very eager to hit the pavement in classic hard again.

The only struggle I have - what to play!?

Most likely a Warlock since thats how it all began for me…

Currently, the only way I could argue against a beta is time. The demo proved they don’t ‘need’ a beta. They can do all their fixes live.

First day of summer is 8 weeks away. Last day of summer 22 weeks. Still time if they launch late into the summer. No time if they launch right away.

As someone who quit shortly before Cataclysm, I know how it feels to have been wanting this for an extremely long time, but in Blizzard’s defence they only announced the internal alpha because someone data-mined the files; they probably wouldn’t have mentioned it otherwise, and only did so because if they said nothing, that would have been a slap in the face.

Thankfully, you know just as much as the rest of us schlubs.

I mean, it’s not like they haven’t basically given us an update on something about once a week for the last 2 months.

Yeah and there will still be a beta. It may not be as long as a traditional beta, but there will be one.

People up in here seriously got me facepalming.

Y’all really think they won’t do a beta, rofl - they still need their “restoration” tested. I am curious to see how it is handled but mark my words, they will open it up for testing and not just release it willy-nilly. This is Blizzard we’re talking about.

Did they beta the demo? How many people played the demo? If the demo failed miserably it would have had major blowback.

The need for a demo is not as great as some like to make it sound. Does that mean there won’t be a beta, nope. They don’t need a beta though.

They are making a Frankenstein version of the game layered over a version of the retail client and releasing it as a new version, 1.13.

Of course they’ll want it to be tested.

They used the demo for feedback and said a lot would be changing, but that was just two zones and a few handfuls of levels.

How do you know they don’t need a beta? And don’t turn around and say “how do you know they will need one” because I’ve explained why I think there will be one.

I want an explanation, not this trying to turn it back around on me. Explain your stance or I will not reply again. I want to know how you know their internal processes so well that they don’t need a beta.

You might think it’s Frankenstein but it’s probably a lot less than you realize.

The database is where the majority of their work has to be. They even said as much in a dev watercooler.

Just how much Frankenstein exactly am I realizing?

You quoted the reason already. It’s ok. I know you expected some kinda dev quote or something. Actions are just important. You can minimize the demo all you like. It fully illustrates their ability to use agile development methodologies. That alone is enough to prove they can skip a beta.

About as much as you have worded in a post.

So a small test of two zones and very partial leveling experience is equivalent to testing a release of the full game?

You can minimize the need for a beta all you like, I guess. Using your words.
