Employee Alpha Testing for WoW Classic

Not sure how them announcing an internal alpha is a slap to anyone?

They’ve been pretty forthcoming with information. The Retail team would never have even said anything.

Anyway, you’re taking levity for criticism.

Only to self-centered people who see everything how it relates to them as opposed to how a trusted software development team needs to do a certain set of work.

Pretty much this. I mean we’ve gotten a significant blue post pretty much one a week for the last 1 1/2 - 2 months

[insert Poe’s Law citation]

Oh dear. :cold_sweat:

They’ve literally said “summer 2019” multiple times, why are people still treating it like it’s some kind of rumor needing to be confirmed?

Fixed your post for you.

Hehheh, I use the google standard. It’s how we sleep at night. It’s not today, how do I cope!

Some I just noticed about that. “We recently began a phase of internal employee testing”

Which is a little bit different than what I initially read it as being “We recently began internal employee testing.”

I’d put odds it just went to friends & family alpha, or is expected to go there very soon. And in this case, I don’t think the F&F alpha is going to run very long. I’d still expect Beta by sometime in May.

I am not sure they will do a beta. I don’t believe they will do an open beta nor a beta for a select few. Maybe a weekend stress test, if anything.

Also, testing functionality, like logging in through Blizzard Battle net App? I would think this is nearing one of the last things that needs to be done. Not sure they would worry about it right now if it wasn’t near complete.

Hey, thanks for the update. Looking forward to more information.

Naw, they’ll do one.

This is normal. They do internal/family & friends alpha and then external alpha/beta. For all of their games, and all expansions. It’s stages.

They aren’t going to go from internal alpha to release…

If they have no plans on a beta, that’s exactly what they would do, internal testing to release.

Where did you see that they “have no plans for a beta”?

Are you referring to this?

That’s not the same thing as “plans”

Where do you see they have plans for a beta? I’d go and track down the quote from BlizzCon but it’s a video so no thanks.

It basically went something like this “we want to get it right and we want to work with the community to do that”. During the demo, they hotfixed things continually. They could easily have that same plan. Launch then hotfix and patch as they go.

Will they have a beta? No idea, but to believe without a doubt that they will, has no founding other than “that’s how it’s done”.

I don’t. And I never said there were any plans. You are the one implying they may not have plans so that’s why I asked you to back up that claim. If you can’t back it up then let’s drop it.

But I have never seen Blizzard skip a beta phase. Ever. If they did, maybe it happened in the very early stages of them making games.

I have no reason to assume that they won’t do a beta for this. I’m not saying they will for sure but I’m pretty sure at some point they will do external invites so can stress test and get feedback about gameplay and bugs.

I’m actually confused about why people always think they will magically stop doing betas for their games. This happens every game. Every WoW expansion. But they always do a beta, lol… Because it’s part of their process.

My reply was about order of operations. In reply to your post that they wouldn’t go from internal testing to launch - they would if they didn’t do a beta.

Not sure how you’d take that as me claiming there is no beta. Only the magic 8 balls know that answer and it keeps telling me to ask again later.

But, if you need a reason for them to not do a beta. The client had a beta already. It’s had changes but do those changes warrant a beta? No idea.

That’s fair. I made the assumption that you were reading into something that was posted by Blizzard. Now I know what you meant.

Well… the only thing I’ll say about that is that they are calling this an Alpha. Usually they do internal or ff Alpha and then move on to Beta. If they are in Alpha right now there will probably be some sort of Beta. They don’t do Beta and then go back to Alpha. If it’s Alpha now then there hasn’t been a true “Beta” yet.

I mean you could argue that there may not be a Beta but I’m pretty sure there will be.
