Hello everyone, these are my specs. 2 1/2 year old build
Cpu-intel core i5-8400 1ga 1151
cooler-cryoig-h7 49.0
motherboard- asrock z2370m pro4 atx a1151
memory-corsair-vengeance lpx 8gb ddr4 2666
storage-Seagate-firecuda 1tb 3.5 7200
videocard-zotac-geforce gtx 1060 6g
power supply- seasonic s1211 520w 80+
So during my play session in wow, my screen suddenly went black and my computer starting making a weird, loud, motor sounding noise. The machine was still running, but my screen wouldn’t turn back on. I cleaned all the dust out of my video card and re-applied thermal paste to my intel cpu before turning it back on.
When I turned the computer back on. It wouldn’t recognize my graphics card. My build was using the “default” HUD 640 card? (didnt even know I had that in there)
My GeForce experience said I didn’t meet requirements to install the graphics drivers.
After fumbling for alittle bit, my computer decided to finally recognize my graphics card and the fuzziness went away.
I’m wondering if I have parts that are going ka-puts, even though the temps are fine. However, sometimes my screen flashes black for a couple of seconds and it makes a windows complete sound effect. (that’s the best I can describe it)
How do I check for dying/faulty parts? I want to be sure that the cause of my computer’s momentarily collapse was the graphics card itself.
These type of problems can be hard to pin point.
Does it happen often? Or was it a one time thing?
What has change recently? Updates? Drivers, hardware, software, etc
Are you connected to a power surge protector? How old is that surge protector?
If there was a faulty component then these three points are likely to cause what your experiencing is; motherboard, gpu, and psu.
It was a one time thing. (for now with my luck)
It’s not connected to a power surge protector.
When I turned my computer back on, my computer could not find my graphics card and it looked like the drivers were un-installed. Geforce said I didn’t meet the requirements to install the driver and my computer was using a default video card HUD 630. After reinstall the graphics card into my computer, it finally recognized the part.
your integrated gpu from the 8400 is the HUD630.
I would invest in a good power surge protector and just say this is a freak accident and whatever safety measure kicked in to protect the components.
Ok thank you for the help. Sorry to sound like an out of touch boomer, but why a power surge protector? Is it extra protection?
Power surge protectors help prevent your computer from getting a spike of power.
Modern components have some protection against it, but when your computer gets a spike in power, it will damage your computer.
For example it can fry some of the chips on your motherboard.

Ok. thank you thank you. I watched that video and I’m more informed now
My last question is; how do you check the health of your motherboard or psu.
I don’t see any physical damage, leaks, or busted wire around the motherboard. For the most part, my computer is operating normally.
I checked the ramm, HHD, drivers and re-plugged everything.
To thoroughly check your motherboard and psu, you will have to grab a multimeter and you would have to know what you’re checking, which to be honest I wouldn’t know all of it without a schematic.
Does the sound happen to sound like this? This problem sounds familiar

No. The sound was something, in the between, of it trying to turn off and wanting to turn back on at the same time. It sounded like everything inside the machine was turning on at the same time.
The computer also didn’t restart itself or open any options menu.
