They have less than 1-million subs. League has over 100 million active players. Sorry, but ‘thriving’ is not what MMOs currently are doing.
No it wouldn’t. People want depth, not drool-on-the-keyboard easy. Elden Ring and BG3 were hits because they didn’t hold your hand every step of the way.
There are no masses of new gamers waiting to play but intimidated by addons. Any new gamers (ie. younger gamers) have grown up with mods, and are looking for something to sink their teeth into.
I never preordered to begin with (had a funny feeling I shouldn’t)…and I unsubbed. I’ve got maybe 3 more months here until it runs out, and if this isn’t all walked back by then I’m gone.
Right, because Roblox and Minecraft don’t have addons?? Fortnite is just a simple shooter? League of Legends combat is completely simple, 1 dimensional, and easy to learn and master? Elden Ring was praised due to it’s simplicity of combat and general approachableness? BG3 was game of the year because it was dumbed down?
It’s like you guys live in some weird mirror world where everyone is a drooling moron…
Guess what those games are very niche and not accessible for everyone else. And also, games with more players tends to be more player friendly and more approachable and not complex and easy out of the box.
Yes and it will be on Blizzard’s terms. Blizzard doesn’t want players processing the data that comes from Unit Frames in add ons for combat advantage. It’s not that difficult to understand.
Because imo people aren’t quitting because add-ons or the elimination of combat add-ons. They’re quitting because they got burned out, real life things happened, or the general direction of the game turned people off (meaning the pace, flow, number of things to keep track of, etc).
I’m certainly on the side of thinking these changes are great, but I’m self aware enough to know I’m the target audience and so it makes sense I like them.
For those who need/want their add-ons, I feel for you, but ultimately I think this is healthiest for the game. Purely cosmetic add-ons, like elvui, at least I think it’s purely cosmetic??, should be able to function. I hope they loosen API restrictions to make it possible. It sounds like that’s the goal but time will tell.
I think if a game is only playable (in every enviroment) with a bunch of extra addons/ui-stuff, then its a good idea to prune them.
Will it be +strange+ at first? Sure.
Will people be mad at this? Sure.
But without changes no evolution in any direction. For good or worse.
Lets wait and see how it will be.
If some e-sport-m+ players can/do not want to play with a bunch of extra ui-stuff, then maybe its a chance to test other games or adjust here.
The majority of wow does not do high m+ and mythic raids at all. And if they are having fun without the common ui/addons, they will continue to play. If not, they will not.
Its not the end of the world and maybe it will be nice, without so many extra-stuff on the screen. Maybe a bit more relaxed too?
I do not want to rage-bait here, but some people are too emotional only bec. of some ui-stuff here.
Only thing i worry is that people with some health-problems like deaf etc. will have problems then. For them Blizzard should bring some help ingame, so they can enjoy the game too.
By ‘niche’ what you meant to say is ‘FAR FAR more popular than WoW.
Elden Ring, BG3, League, all disagree with you. On top of that the ‘too dumb to do anything but click’ crowd is already playing Candy Crush, they’re not getting a sub to play the same game.
If blizz wants new players, it needs to provide an experience worthy of it’s high price tag (both in terms of money, and time), and dumbing the game down is the exact opposite.
You people clearly can’t read any analytics and or any statistics of which game is more approachable and more new player friendly and have a more friendly onboarding process versus what is niche and small and not the majority.
game of the year or whatever is not a good indicator of anything.
League has 4 buttons. If a league player wants to play a mote complicated game wows pruned version is still more complicated. Unless its ffxiv id say most games looking for more complexity can find it in wow even after the pruning. What you consider complex and what they consider complex are two different things.
You played wow during the peak complexity where addons where needed for high end content. New players have not. Assuming they are looking for that particular lvl of complexity verse just being more complex then what their used to is not correct.
Look at things from there view. Not your own. And stop projecting.
League got 1 alt. And 4 abilities. Wow has a rotation a couple cooldowns defensives interupts. Its already more complex even with the pruning
