With the arrival of Midnight around the (far) corner, the topic of elves is a rather common one to delve into. In doing research by curiosity, I’ve come across a bit of a problem: the topic of Arator is confusing.
With the knowledge we have in place, the elven tribes originating from Quel’thalas and where they are is as follows:
Ren’dorei: Officially part of the Alliance, exiled from Quel’thalas.
Sin’dorei: Officially part of the Horde, residing in Quel’thalas.
Quel’dorei: One part exiled from Quel’thalas and the other part refusing to follow the ways of the blood elves, they join the Alliance. Though not permitted to reside in Quel’thalas and Silvermoon, pilgrimage to the Sunwell was eventually and long since been allowed. Quel’dorei note: Though significantly fragmented, these are a rare sight and commonly mistaken for blood elves.
…And then there’s Arator.
From the short story “A Whisper of Warning”, he appears to actively live in Silvermoon, despite having affiliation to the Alliance. He’s also a leader of the Silver Hand, which makes him neutral. By technicalities, Arator is a Quel’dorei, as he was not present during the renaming of the Blood Elves. He was also seen to support Alliance forces during the third Legion war alongside Turalyon… but never once stands alongside the blood elves in any measure of war.
Yet despite all of this, Arator lives in Silvermoon??
Arator has been kind of a footnote character that is easy to forget about because quite frankly he hasn’t done much besides occasionally remind people he exists.
As to him living in Silvermoon: Lorthemar has been relatively ok with the Queldorei making pilgrimages since late legion so as long as he wasn’t doing anything Lorthemar would probably be fine with him having a place where he is just ~I dunno~ washing people’s feet.
Yea it’s just alliance main character syndrome, it’s obvious the team at blizzard has been infiltrated by people that are forever mad that blood elves were horde instead of alliance and have tried their best to cope with that and change the game as they’ve gotten more power of it. (I.E void elves getting blood elf skin tones for no reason)
No, some were exiled by Lor’themar. Like the group at quel’lithien. They didn’t leave to join the alliance. https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Quel%27Lithien_Lodge
So it really just seems like Arator is merely a character in the background and one to not really grasp anything out of. If he’s living in Silvermoon, it does beg the question: can blood elves be found living in Stormwind? There may be an active Armistice, but I don’t see blood elves being allowed to live in Alliance territory. The same thing for Quel’dorei having zero permission living in Horde-blood elf territory.
Even Alleria (his mother) was welcome there until recently. I don’t think the Blood Elves are faction-obsessed, they value their own people (Thalassian) more than faction bonds. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Alliance Quel’dorei.
Sin’dorei are Quel’dorei, so it’s not a problem for a Quel’dorei like Arator to reside in Silvermoon.
I’m sure visiting can be done, much like Alleria visited Arator in Silvermoon… but that’s an entirely different ordeal than living in the city, however.
I doubt the matter of “allowed” would even come up. Would any blood elves even want to live in alliance territory? I very much doubt it. Elves are reclusive, proud, and very attached to their homeland. In both an emotional sense and a literal one, with their dependence on the sunwell. There’s good reason for elves wanting to return home. Not much for them to move away.
Post BfA, the only faction conflict is in Classic and sometimes on the forum.
To quote Alleria:
Where once there was discord, there is now unity of purpose. No longer Oathsworn or Unbound, just as we can no longer be Horde or Alliance. We are all in this together as one.
This one really bothered me cause we get no explanation as to how and why he is on Silvermoon. What’s his role? In what capacity? Is he still affiliated with the alliance or has gone neutral? Big “who knows?” energy.
