I have no strong opinion on the larger topic being discussed, but the Legion canonically ignored worlds that didn’t draw attention. They were going to skip Draenor until they sensed that “sweet Eredar magic” that the Draenei refused to stop using.
I think that until we know otherwise, there’s nothing to contradict what I said about her still being worshipped on other planets. And considering all the wild gods that were being reborn and sent back to their homeworlds just fine, we only met a few that didn’t have a world left is why I don’t put much into the whole Legion destroyed most of the universe statement. Otherwise we would have seen a lot of wild gods with no homes, which we don’t
To be honest I really hate this new trend of making Elune a Nature representative or whatever.
I was fine with Elune being an unknown being tied to the Moon and night time, with some sort of divine magic used both to heal and harm.
Now she’s been slowly retconed into something completely different. She is now more a nature/plant thing instead of the ethereal arcane deity she once was.
We can see that trend reflected onto the Night Elves with Sun themes implemented with things ranging from NE racials to iconic elven armor like the Warden Set being called “Sun Warden”, even the Warden mount now turns golden under the sunlight. And to add to all these we had the Blades of Elune being a generic sword covered in vines and leaves instead of a moonlike crescent blade or something like that.
I say Blizzard should leave Elune alone and stop trying to make her the most important thing in the universe and instead develope new characters like An’she.
Be cool if each race had a unique god that answered to them only. Much like how Elune is unique to the Kaldorei. An’she needs some fleshing out and some love, and the orcs and other races need some unique loa/gods.
I agree - I liked the thematic duality of the night elves revering both nature and the moon, because they were distinct and different themes. It played up the concept of the night elves as the strange feral forest creatures who somehow also had a refined society, who would tear apart their foes in a nighttime ambush and then sing hymns in a marble temple with no disconnect between the two behaviors.
Thematically, I just don’t think making Elune a Nature deity works. The nature and lunar themes have always been separate:
Nature is green or multicolored, always physically nearby, and somewhat mundane with how often the night elves encountered nature spirits. It was their daily life and duty, ever-present and important.
The moon is pale/colorless, distant both literally in the sky far above and figuratively as Elune does not personally show up like nature spirits did, and often cold due to the coloration and distance, yet that distance made it comforting at the same time. This was the more spiritual and less physical aspect of night elf society, set apart from the druids and nature but no less important.
I feel that lumping them together loses that charm, making Nature feel less down-to-earth and making the moon feel less remote.
The Night Warrior’s Attacks in Shadowlands still deal Arcane Damage.
Of course Bastion and the Brokers deal Arcane Damage as well.
Basically Elune is a being of Arcane Life Magic focusing on the Arcane cycles of the Moon while the Winter Queen is a being of Nature Death Magic focusing on the cycles of Nature(living to not living back to living).
As the Grimoire of the Shadowlands states Ardenweald sends those whom the Night Fae revive back to the exact place they originally perished.
It’s only Azeroth’s Nature Spirits that go to the Emerald Dream upon resurrection despite Anzu finding his way there from Outland(this incidentally was after the Druids arrived in Outland to begin with by the way).
I think Elune was originally supposed to be bigger - as in one of the First Ones or the big-G Creator God of the Warcraft universe. But Elune was retconned into being part of the Life pantheon to try and make the audience accept the retcon. Remember, Elune;
-
Was able to cleanse her Tear of the Emerald Nightmare’s energy, something initially considered irreversible by her priests.
-
Was able to unlock Light’s Heart with her power. Light’s Heart being the core of the Naaru Xe’ra; who was both more strictly pro-Light and her core could only be unlocked by a Naaru descended from her (both Velen and Khadgar noted a potential connection between Elune and the Naaru). That strict stance for the Light also means Xe’ra would be unlikely to take kindly to a Life being affecting her unless Xe’ra wasn’t actually strict or they had some sway over the Light.
-
Elune’s Tear is considered a “Pillar of Creation” alongside tools of the Titans, who are all about arcane.
Elune deserves and requires a massive nerf to make her completely equal to Horde gods such as Bwonsamdi.
Hopefully Blizzard eventually realizes that having the entire setting, class and racial lore revolve around Alliance deities is not an acceptable option lol
The trolls have the coolest gods(loa) in game and lore, and it’s a shame they don’t get nearly half the screen time as Elune does
tbh they get more screentime than Elune, they just aren’t as important as she is.
Which sucks.
They even nerfed Bwonsamdi for the sake of night elves in their night elven forest afterlife.
Yeah, that’s true. I wish the hordes gods/loa were elevated to an equal status as Elune currently is. Gods know the horde needs some positive development for a change.
It did slip my mind how often the loa are mentioned, but they feel so irrelevant whenever they’re bought up, that you’re right, it does suck
It will not change anything if elune get depowered, it will not improve the horde expierience by doing so.
And the alliance and nightelf are desperate for a positive developement aswell.
Sure it will improve things, especially horde side. Elune will no longer be at the center of WoWs cosmology. She’ll be reduced to just another god amongst many gods in WoWs universe and that is a good thing
Edit: Still has me listed a Mag’har even though I raced changed into a Vulpera. Forums being weird again
It says you are a Maghar but your pic is definitely a Vulpera.
Firmly establishing Elune as the Kaldorei’s goddess first and foremost instead of a universal being that all Life magic users across the universe are tied to will absolutely improve my experience as a Troll Druid main
Yeah. The forum will catch up after a while. It should change soon enough. I was on Karestae this morning, playing around with the new engineering toy that lets you swap races and a bunch of us got the vulpera, so we messed around with.
I being the silly furry that I am, decided I wanted to main a vulpera but too lazy to level one so I race changed Rah.
Edit: Looks like it caught up. Yay!!
My general rule of thumb for Shadowlands is;
Don’t bother putting more thought into it than the people paid to write it did.
Because clearly no one parsed through the implications of a lot of it.
Like Faranell is out here with specimens of virulent plague from the cosmic, divine source of the very concept of disease.
Even as a Forsaken main I find that a bit concerning.
and it will worsen the expierience of the night elves playerbase…if your only way to improve your expierience to worse the expirience of others
Or how it’s implied that every major power in the Warcraft universe can perform Necromancy.
