How do you know? What is a goddess? Like I said when that line was thrown out many authors ago, there was no other contention for the name god in Vanilla.
Lots of things have changed here, and if Elune is a god, she’s not a very active one. She didn’t save Teldrassil and from what we’re told the majority of her power is now vested in Tyrande, and she could not even take out Nathanos with it. She wasn’t even around when Archimonde almost took out Nordrassil.
Truth be told, for all that work up of a goddess outside of some special effects in the sky, what has Elune DONE to earn that veneration? She didn’t save Ysera save to turn her into a constellation after Tyrande and the Champion brought her maddened self down. All she did for those who died on Teldrassil was to put them in an anaesthtic sleep. (and that’s OOC knowledge only) Couldn’t she have done SOMETHING about the fires ? It’s not like the bulk of her power was “tied up in the Night Warrior” at the time. as stated later, And for Tyrande, “the vast majority of her power” was insufficient to do more than earn a draw with Nathanos, leaving him without a scratch while the Champion was the one to take down the Val’kyr, not Tyrande.
If you look at things objectively, you have to concede that Daerlyn and Sira JUST might have a point.
Darnassian is the mother tongue of the elven races. The name is weird since Darnassus was only created about a decade ago ingame, but presumably the word is an ancient one.
While the Night Elves are the only ones who still speak Darnassian, we know of three languages that are offshoots of it: Nazja (Naga), Thalassian (High/Blood/Void Elves), and Shalassian (Nightborne).
Thing is…we should all be at least partially understandable to each other if that were true.
I however believe that the High Elves were so disgusted with their former Night Elf cousins that they went on a total makeover with their culture, their architecture, their favored colors, the shift to Sun worship and a diurnal lifestyle, and a total remake of their language.
The only thing that gave the quote “One True God” is the Non-Canon RPG not Vanilla/Classic WoW!
WoW’s own official Lore Resource from Classic WoW’s Era the Warcraft Encyclopedia merely says that she is one of the few Full Gods in existence alongside Hakkar and the Old Gods.
It’s mostly game mechanics to prevent cross-faction abuse. Ones they’ve only recently started relaxing a bit on. Theoretically, it shouldn’t be much different than American, British, and Australian English.
But then again, I only remember a language barrier being used once in the setting, in early Azuremyst questing, where the Draenei PC learns Furbolg. Draenei who then go on to communicate perfectly fine with the rest of the entire planet, no problem.
And the latter two have been retconned. Elune is unlike them in that she’s the only one to not be dragged down, instead being elevated to something that predates the dawn of the universe if Khadgar’s random trivia is correct.
You’re missing the bloody point. What the hell does that statement mean in context these days given the decade and a half of story development since that statement was simply thrown out without any meaning? What IS a god in these terms given that Elune is a long history of barely any useful action? She was absent during the War of the Sands, not involved at all in the battle with the Legion on Kalimdor, and when one of her children asked for aid against the Demons, she gave her a useless Scythe that ultimately destroyed her.
And during the time of their greatest need, she was of NO HELP AT ALL. Sorry but I don’t consider putting your people to sleep after you utterly failed to aid them that big a boon.
One would expect a BIT more from the “one true God”.
I understand more than you think, though you are coming off as a bit more angry than as a skeptic making a point. I am sure that will change after I get some caffeine in me.
It was thrown out there with meaning. She does have a lot of power and has actively intervened before.
In this case it is a being who has guided and even evolved a group of trolls into something more. She has given them the choice in belief or nonbelief, and has at times given them aid even.
Like I said, your posts seem more angry than skeptical. Your parents can’t hold your hand every step of the way, they have to let you both succeed and fail to let you grow and develop. It’s like that in higher levels as well.
Her high priest, her child, the fact that she taught the Kaldorei the titian words like Kalimdor. Even the tauren knew of the connection to Cenarius and Malorne.
See above for the Tauren and the Zandalari lunali apparently rever her.
And?
This doesn’t even make sense.
As to your quest OP, Elune is her name. I wonder if your trying to understand where the name came from within the Darnassian language? If so we just don’t know as we know very little about the other languages beyond common.
Also Darnassian, Shalassian, and Thalyassin are all offshoots of ancient Darnassian. It’s not spoken anymore but the Shendalar Highborne used it during their meeting with Tyrande and she could still understand and speak it.
The tauren revere the Sun, Anshe, not the Moon. In fact one of the main issues the Tauren Druids have with Night Elf Druids is that they feel that the latter are too moon-happy.
That’s one of the interesting differences about the Tauren Paladins, they seem more a creation of these same Tauren Druids.
And the Nightborne do not revere Elune. or not since the Sisters left Suramar before the Sundering.
The primary worship of An’she is unique to the Highmountain tauren, and she only became a major aspect of Mulgore tauren culture as recently as Cataclysm. They’ve always revered Mu’sha, their name for Elune, as an eye of the Earthmother.
Their introduction was prefaced by Aponi talking to Hamuul about Mu’sha perhaps being too much of a focus, and that they should consider elevating An’she further for the sake of balance. It was in the last patch of Wrath.
No… my claim is that the term “goddess” has absolutely no meaning in the world context. Elune’s power what there is of it, doesn’t even match up to a member of the Titan Pantheon. She’s good at making great displays in the sky, but not much else.
