Elixir of Tongues is one of the greatest things added to the game

Only time that Language Barrier is going is when the Faction Barrier goes, reason Elixir of Tongues is a awesome idea is because it allows both sides who are ‘willing’ to be able to converse whereas the ones who just want to harass, troll or be a’holes are one sided since it only lets you hear them not speak to them.

VERY early in Vanilla IIRC. They had the strange gestures default before not too long.

TBF, that’s all the trolls and aholes really want.

I recall someone saying that that wasn’t its intended function - I don’t recall where, but maybe that should be added to the suggestion list along-side making emotes translate too.

Though, that may over-complicate the code more than they’re willing - as it stands, the Elixir of Tongues item strikes me as a copy/paste of sorts of the language code, done with as minimal as possible extra done to it.

That isn’t inherently a bad thing, I just suspect Blizzard forgot that emotes were even a thing, and having both people be required to have the buff active may require a rework of the code that they’re not interested in doing right now.

((As a note, I have -literally no idea- what I’m talking about. This is all conjecture based on how very little I know about code.))

Ohhh no wonder they broke that other addon that some people were complaining about.
Well this should be an interesting take on things. You can communicate across faction in other games it’s about time we could do it in WoW.

I seem to recall that Forsaken could understand both factions too in early Vanilla.

They could, and warlocks could speak to each other in Meta form.

I still miss Meta form. Dark Apotheosis, too. Blizzard left a hole in my heart that CAN NEVER BE FILLED.

Roll a demon hunter?

Like i have said before, Blizzard should just completely remove the language barriers. We have had Pandas speaking to Pandas, Demon Hunters speaking to Demon Hunters, Blood Elves speaking to Void Elves, and now this item which allows us to speak to anyone on the other faction. Why not just remove it all and make it more simple?

A Demon Hunter probably would be great for that, but I don’t… really like the concept of a Demon Hunter itself, for what I enjoyed before. It’s very restricting.

There should be, and looks like THERE IS (because I can understand A LOT of alliance NPCs, as a Horde) a common language, that we toggle, just like those races you cited.

That shouldn’t be the case so I suspect that will be fixed.

The intent behind the potion is consent. By using it, you’re opting into understanding the opposite faction. Thus if you don’t want to have to listen to, for example, the raging of a gank/camp victim, you don’t have to simply by not using the potion.

Also, watch out for the Orb of Deception which, on an appearance level, swaps a race with its analog from the other faction. They are still your faction, they just look and have a tooltip that says otherwise.

I would be down for removing the language barrier. Maybe they could give scribes recipes to to make tomes of language learning that would permanently teach your character languages. Or begin a quest to learn the language of another race.

How do you even select a language to speak in?
