More so one player giving advice, a 2nd player saying “lol no, huntargaer” and then launching into an anti-pvp-i-shouldnt-have-to-farm-to-get-the-gear “nuh-uh” yeah-HUH argument
It really comes down to folks needing to be less socially awkward and have common etiquette. The problem is, with a lot of the Blizzard features in retail, I think folks swapping directly to Classic might be in a bit of a shock on how much the community is needed to enjoy Classic.
Folks should try to engage with folks when questions are asked. Folks should try and direct folks where weapon trainers are.
Most of the success of Classic is going to fall on the community aspect, so we as a community should try and not be a bunch of jackwagons.
Man I’d love to know what super friendly hug fest servers you guys played on in vanilla because my server was as cutthroat as it it gets.
I remember killing a mob next to a thorium vein on my warrior and a hunter not only stealing the vein, but also pulling a bunch of stuff to me, waiting for my thunderclap to hit it and then feigning death to give me aggro just to laugh when I died.
And that wasnt an isolated incident. It was a wasteland of jerks in vanilla taking whatever advantage they could get.
Now after 14 years they’re launching classic and I see ten posts a day of people asking how to get an advantage over others.
“What class can I aoe farm with to get buckets of gold? What’s the fastest way to level? What are the most lucrative professions?” Etc etc ad infinitum.
Good luck with your “etiquette” I sincerely hope it doesn’t break down for you almost immediately
Don’t know why you’d pull warcraft 3 from your hat if DoTA is what was implied. Not when Warhammer online and Darkfall were the two new MMOs that took a majority of longstanding PvP guilds from WoW
Misleading title, this doesn’t have to do with elitism, elitism entails someone who thinks they’re better than everyone (and often aren’t) and they tend to be toxic by saying stupid **** and raging because…they think they’re skilled. This has less to do with people thinking they’re hot **** and more with them just being selfish.
Not doing any of the above is frowned upon, but has been around since forever. There will always be players who just don’t care.
We also know its not a requirement, most people buff others not expecting anything in return, its just being helpful.
ahahahahahah ahhh.
Yeah whatever, not gonna get too bent over a chest. More times than not gonna probably pass on em myself.
And you’re here complaining about elitism lol. Be patient with people and don’t just rage at em, explain whats commonly done so they know whats ideal. If they refuse to listen then just kick em, problem solved, they’ll learn real quick if they keep getting kicked.
Is explaining something nicely to someone that hard? All you can do is try being nice, if they take that as elitism kinda their own perception eh.
There are elitist everywhere, the person on the other end taking your orders may think badly of you because your buying fast food or your colleagues at the factory may be calling you lazy and stupid on you first day job because they know your a millennial despite working more and longer then them.
Classic will have those very same elitist who tell you druids are trash and you don’t deserve anything despite healing their group.
I see. I wasn’t aware someone would define those things as “elitism.” Thank you for the clarification.
This is a pretty common solution to many problems people suggest. Sometimes, it may be warranted, sometimes not.
For example,
Bob: “Make my flying mounts available in Classic.”
Alice: “Go back to Retail.”
Alice is telling Bob where he can find his flying mounts. This is informative, true, and has the added benefit of implying that Alice does not want flying mounts to be made available in Classic.
Bob: “I’m having a hard time finding a group as a hunter.”
Alice: “Go back to Retail.”
In this case, Alice is making fun of Bob for rolling a hunter, and expecting to be invited to groups. She is having fun, and just making a joke.
Bob: “Somebody won a need roll on an item I really wanted, so I typed in ALL CAPS, pulled all the mobs, rage quite the instance, and even left my guild.”
Alice: “Go back to Retail.”
In this case, Alice is implying that she would prefer Classic to be an environment that is free from greedy individuals that do silly things when they don’t get their way.
Can I be honest? Those etiquette rolls are just common sense and very intuitive and apply to real life as well.
Can you help someone in need with no effort or danger on your part? Then do it. Same applies to buffing randoms.
If someone is working on something with the goal of acquiring something, would you just swoop in and take what he worked so hard to get? Same applies to players skinning or mining.
If you and a friend come upon a 20 on the ground, would you just snag it and pocket it or would you flip a coin to see who gets it. Or better yet, split it. Same goes for rolling on chests.
If you play football and your friend plays hockey, and a common friend is getting rid of his hockey stick, will you grab it or would you let the friend who actually plays hockey grab it? Same applies to need and greed rolls.
It’s pretty straight forward courteous behaviour and most people, even green newbs, will figure it out quickly, although most will not be aware of the /roll command right away. You can usually tell the ninjas because they will need roll everything, never own up to their faux pas, and use stupid excuses like “oh, this is BOE and my alt needs this epic drop, kthx”.
Classic always had elitism back in the day. Often the most annoying, egomaniacs were the top raid guilds on the realm. Though lots of people didn’t pay attention to this or don’t remember, for some reason.
