Elemental Shaman Questions

Hi All,

With so many alts and all different classes and specs, sometimes it hard to figure out the proper rotations. My main question has to do with AoE. How are you getting lava burst to spread…or should I say, how do you all get it to spread so fast (meaning timing)? Flame shock is a 4.5 sec cooldown. I see videos where players run up on packs and pretty quickly have lava burst hit multiple mobs at the same time. I can sometimes get that to work with the pack training dummies but thats with the spread of flame shock but that takes time even with the talent Surge of Power selected. I know Primordial Wave is involved… I can get it to work once in a while but I have no clue what I did. I hope I am making sense. Thanks for any advice in advance!

On a different note, Ele Shaman has to be some of the best animations and spell effects in the game!

Thanks again,
Kido

Combination of Liquid Magma Totem and the talent in the class tree that resets totems with a CD shorter than X (i forget the exact time).

The key thing to know is that Primordial Wave, with the current tier set, also launches an Elemental Blast. This counts as a real Elemental Blast, meaning it immediately grants you Surge of Power.

At the start of a pack, you first use Primordial Wave, which automatically puts Flame Shock on the target and grants you SoP. Then you cast Flame Shock on a different target, consuming SoP and spreading to an additional target. At this point you have 3 Flame Shocks out. Then, you drop Liquid Magma Totem, which applies another 3 Flame Shocks for 6 total.

Then you FINALLY press Lava Burst and watch the meatballs fly. Elegant, isn’t it?

An alternative to keep in mind is when using LMT with Totemic Recall. Slam LMT > TR > LMT > Primordial Wave > Lava Burst

You’ll have maximum Flameshocks applied through the LMTs placed in 2 GCDs, and Primordial Wave will through Splintered Elements provide +44%% haste.

You’ll also end up rolling Primordial Wave’s cooldown dramatically down with Rolling Lava, with the initial LvB after the Primordial Wave cutting 9 seconds off the 45 second cooldown immediately and the tier cutting 1.5 to 3 seconds off for the next few.

If you have the Fire Elemental up, these will roll for a long time, likely the entire life of the party pull being refreshed through Ascendance procs or because the mobs die.

What to do with Maelstrom?
I think it’s Earthquake, Lava Burst, Earthquake, Lava Burst. This allows each EQ to be buffed by Master of the Elements and each Lava Burst to be instant +10%

There are other opportunities as well, like if you have Ascendance use Stormkeeper and Lava Beam.

I’m sure there’s more nuance and better elegance in other situations.

My next dungeons, I’m going to use the Skybreaker build. At 467 ilvl, I’m hitting 400k DPS on 5 target dummies. It’s insane.

Here’s the build I was using:
