Title.
I’ve read through mage guides on Wowhead and Icy Veins, + some other general info online and I’m even more confused now.
There’s two different opinions and consensus on embellishments:
1)Embellishments have very little different between them in TWW 2)DMS: Ascension is much better than the rest

I am shatter crit capped now just over 33.34% so what the point of getting possible crit rotation buffs?
What about other classes/builds that have a lot of one stat and they get a buff that starts to kick in diminishing returns on said stat?
So what I think you’re asking is, why go into diminishing returns on a particular secondary stat. If that’s the case then I’ll just use my class as an example. My mastery is so strong that you could pump as much into it because of talent “Any Means Necessary” and it would be beneficial because at the end of the day no matter what it’ll just make you end up doing more damage. That’s a very ELI5 way to explain it.
This is no longer a talent, it was removed from Havoc. In its place is a talent that uses a charge of Throw Glaive when you Blade Dance. But other than, Mastery is still good.
Elemental Focusing Lens is only good if you have sockets on all gear, from my understanding. It gains more damage per different gem equipped. – This part isn’t correct anymore. It was changed to proc off having 1 gem equipped. Equipping a 2nd gem of any name will not increase its damage procced.
Ascension just gives you a random secondary stat while you’re in combat. Which is good in raids, but less value in m+ and down time between pulls.
Usually I wait a couple weeks into a season to see what the 50 top players of my spec/class are using on Murlok IO site.
Yeah, 1 to get the proc, I’m not quite sure it works without gems. But it goes up in damage per unique named gem. If you have 2 sockets on your necklace, 4 on rings combined, 1 on bracers, 1 on head piece, and 1 on your belt, and all the gems have different names, you get the maximum benefit from it. So late in a season, its probably really decent. This is no longer true. It was changed to proc off 1 gem.
I think they buffed your Mastery, or made you gain more % from gear to compensate, but its not as good as AMN. Still though, Havoc seems to be in an okay spot this season.
Are you sure you’re not talking about Culminating Blasphemite meta gem? - “Primary stat and 0.15% critical effect per unique Algari gem color”
I don’t want to waste gold to test out my Elemental Focusing Lens embellishment now to put in different gem types but on a 645 item, it procs for 115K dmg. With 2 of the same embellishment it procs for a little over 230K, and quite often.
Having close to 1M dmg procs multiple times/minute seems overkill for an embellishment, which is why I asked if you’re thinking of the blasphemite gem?
is this for Frost? I’m not sure for that spec since I haven’t played it since tBC.
For Arcane though Ascension is just better for all the way up to near max BiS gear. This is because until then they sim within 0.2% damage from each other.
Good thing is you can remake them to change it later
This is my main issue with playing mage. There are so many different requires stats and gear pieces and chants for each spec.
It gets quite costly and difficult to play a diff spec, so I am trying to settle on one for this season (for now at least).
Love arcane the most but reading about its rotations and priorities seems wayyyy harder and complicated when I played it years ago.
I suppose too many ppl complained it was too basic.
