I’ve been very keenly following the WC3:Reforged datamining this past week. I am absolutely gaga for the new models and artwork. It all looks absolutely exquisite. But wowhead posted a very interesting batch of character models a short while ago. It includes the bunch of named human paladins who appeared throughout the game. Each with unique models, and with a Mr Dagrin the Orcslayer wielding one very interesting weapon indeed: https://wow.zamimg.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/876411.jpg
Our man’s got his hands on the Ashbringer! Or at least, a base model of the Ashbringer, or a lookalike, or a cosplay replica. I’m wondering if this means we’re going to find out more about that weapon’s origins. I’ve read the lore about the crystal which sits in it. And the libram of ancient kings in the paladin order hall only briefly mentions that Magni forged the weapon for Alexandros Mograine. But perhaps the sword itself already existed in some manner, and Magni’s forging was just a bit of reshaping and fitting the crystal. Maybe, maybe, maybe. It’s fun to speculate!
In any case, seeing it in the game like that gives me some hope for something I’ve been wishing for. I’ve been hoping that they might give us some new story campaigns in Reforged that tell some of the story that came about after WC3. And top of the list for me is the story of the Ashbringer. I would absolutely love to play through that whole saga in game and it now kind of feels like it might actually happen!
Here’s the rest of those models by the way. That Muradin avatar form though! For Khaz Modan!
It was confirmed straight out of the gate that there’ll be changes to bring it in line with current canon. Multiple characters for the fall of Quel’thalas, including Anasterian with Felo’melorn and Thalorien Dawnseeker, the original wielder of Quel’delar, for example.
Well it wouldn’t be new lore exactly. There was four years between WC3 and WoW. That’s a lot of time for a lot of stuff to happen. Lots of those stories have been told in one fashion or another. This would be the perfect opportunity to let us actually play through those stories.
I hated how Ashbringer was developed in legion, it is one of the most if not the most iconic weapon in WoW and its just a sideline story, you don’t even get a confirmation if its naaru or what
also 100% in favor of retcons to bring the story together, from the get go WoW and WC had problems and now they have a chance to hammer down those problems I say do it
I hope they explain how there are so many of them in the world back in Legion it seemed like they were handing out that weapon to everyone and their mom.
That model and weapon look amazing. I doubt that’s the Ashbringer though, looks more to me like a replica. Perhaps it’s a weapon given to high ranking paladins?
