This artisan’s mettle is impossible to get at high levels of professions. It costs a crapton just to have a workorder put it to craft it, and at high levels of alchemy the only real way to get the last few points is by doing experiments which ALSO cost artisan mettle and isnt guaranteed to give you a skill up. The amount you get from a weekly quest is laughable compared to how much you need. even some of the phials alchemists make also cost mettle. You need to either add more weekly quests, make it part of a vault reward, make it BOA or remove it completely. I almost dont even want to play anymore because im hardcapped at mettle and still need like 2k more so i can craft the gear for my other professions. This is kind of a joke at this point.
I like to add it needs to drop more often and lower the mats needed to craft stuff
I’d be OK with a little extra. Maybe an extra 200 on the quest. No more than that.
Insights let me, as a crafter, sell high difficulty crafts for decent profit. The moment you remove these, you’re at the whims of the orderer to tip you more than 1g.
This is more of an issue with alchemy than artisan mettle. Mettle should be removed from the craft entirely and refunded for alchemists.
What are you using THAT much mettle on for gear? An insight is only 50 mettle. There’s no way you have enough sparks across one server that requires you to spend 2k mettle on insights + rerolls
its like 225 mettle or something just for 1 piece of professional gear.
The renown 18 or so khad gear needs 200 or more mettle as well To craft
Ah right. My bad.
The mettle cost for some of the profession gear is kind of crazy though, it was expensive getting mine set up for 6 different characters.
Regardless, look around for people that want to use their mettle to craft. I paid other players to use their own mettle when making my crafts. Would cost you a pretty penny but right now Mettle is what makes crafting so profitable. Maybe not Alchemy. Blizzard dropped the ball on that and I completely sympathize with you.
I leveled up Blacksmithing, LWing and tailoring across 6 different toons, this week i made just over 2M with my insights. Might be worth to stop putting all your effort towards alch for now and maybe focusing on potions/flasks that you have which can sell for an OK profit when you multicraft
I would like a way to farm mettles too :^) feels like i never have enough of those.

You always have an option to drop a prof you dont need, level another one to 25 - gather the treaures + hidden master and do your first time crafts. You can get an extra 1k+ mettle if you do this for every prof. And you already have the most expensive prof leveled anyways. The rest would be a few thousand gold + time
You kind of can
Every week you can also do the weekly prof quests for the knowledge points + mettle. So it kind of is grindable outside the one time initial surge of it
thats a very exploity way to do it tbh, woudnt be surprised if blizzard doesnt want people to do that
Maybe - its been commented on since beta and blues never said anything about it. Too much work for me but those that like the grind and want a gold sink have access to it. Afaik, you’re only doing THAT professions quest. You still need to buy resources, level up the profession, spend time gathering, buying mats off the AH, etc. And you need to repeat that process everytime you drop the profession for the next.
worst thing about alchemy is you burn throught your mettle just to get it leveled and to learn new recipes.
also, we dont get a weekly crafting order quest
