Effective use of Purify Brew?

I’m slightly new to BrM after gearing up my bear and I just wanted to get some input on Purify and CB in M+

Currently I’m waiting until Yellow stagger before the first then either yellow or red for the second followed by another yellow if in dipping too fast or waiting for a red into CB.
Unless the pack dies and I can pop a quick PB to hit 10 stacks on next pull for a full CB.

This is leaving out Dave and other CDs for sake of ease.

Does this sound right or should I play more safe?

Sounds like you’ve got the hang of it.

You want to purify at the highest stagger amount you can, both for the buff it gives to celestial brew and to make the most of each purify cast. Generally, you’ll be better off waiting for red stagger than using at yellow. But, you have a bit of freedom for your second brew charge since you reduce the CD with your abilities and will end up needing to use purify at suboptimal times to avoid overcapping charges.

Pretty much: if you have 2/almost 2 charges and there isn’t a big hit coming, purify; if you have 2/almost 2 charges and there’s a big hit coming in a few seconds, wait for the hit; if you have 1 charge and red stagger, purify; if you have one charge and less than red stagger, hold it.

Default UI has a stagger meter under your health bar that will tell you how ‘full’ your stagger is. If it reaches 100% you wont stagger any more incoming hits and will be taking around the same up front damage as a dps (or if it’s near 100% and the next hit pushes it to 100%, you’ll stagger an amount up to the cap and the rest will be unmitigated). Watching this meter is a good way to get a feel for the incoming damage and will teach you how to manage purifies like if each boss hit is filling a significant amount of your meter you’ll need to adjust how you use purify. You can also tell if you’ve pulled too much in a dungeon, or need to use a cooldown/external by whether you have enough purify charges to keep your meter out of the 80%+ danger zone.

Ultimately, with the SL iteration of no shared brew charges, you can’t really screw up purifying in most content and can just slam whenever you want. If you’re planning on pushing harder content you’ll have to start being mindful of your charges and the meter.

For the same reason as the second brew charge, you shouldn’t really hold CB unless there’s a big hit coming up in the next ~10ish seconds. You’ll reduce its CD enough that it wont matter.

Everything fiat said, but this can also be slightly adjusted for talents and playstyle.
I’m running Chen’s right now, and the keg double keg smash means an automatic 6 second reduction on brews. Light brewing reduces that further, and Blackout combo is another good bit of reduction meaning I can build and spend purifies more quickly than other builds. I don’t know if there are any sims for survivability, but in terms of personal experience I find blackout combo’s brew reduction as good as high tolerance. (I slightly prefer high tolerance when running Charred Passions, celestial flames is hot garbage)

For practical use, sometimes If I’m doing a big pull right off the bat, like the very first pack in DoS, I will purify very early on and slam celestial just to have that buffer shield while the healer gets down the stairs and into position. A small but well-timed shield is just as good as a beefy one if you’re giving your healer a break.
