Eel Infested Water Design Flaw / Bugged

I know there is some confusion over which chum does what (uncommon quality versus common quality), but this bug is not that.

This is the way you guys designed the pool to work:

  1. Someone happens upon the green “Eel Infested Waters”
  2. Person throws an uncommon (green) quality Chum to start the encounter.
  3. Pool turns into a red “Eel Infested Waters”
  4. Skittering Eels spawn out of the pool.
  5. Person kills skittering eels, loots common (white) chum.
  6. Person throws common (white) quality chum into the red pool.
  7. This spawns more eels.
  8. Person repeats 5 through 7 until the boss spawns.

Here’s the major flaw. If a person stops the encounter (perhaps dies and doesn’t come back, perhaps gets confused with the process) once the pool is red, that pool will remain red until weekly reset, unusable by anyone. Which means no more Vor’koth spawns for the week (at least on that server or shard, I guess.)

Why?

Well, you guys designed a red pool to accept only white chum, which comes from the red pool. Uncommon (green) chum thrown into a red pool does nothing. So it’s a catch 22 if there’s a red pool present, but no skittering eels.

There’s no other place to get common quality chum, i.e., you need chum to get chum, and it has a short duration on it. Therefore, people aren’t going to come along at some later point in time to continue the spawn process.

Is it possible to make the red pool despawn if it hasn’t been “active” in a certain number of minutes? Or to make the red pool accept all chum? Or, to give us another source for the white chum (fish it from the red pool, maybe have it drop off aquatic creatures?)

Thanks.

Just found this post after a number of us wasted our uncommon quality chum on a red Eel Infested Pool. Way to go, blizz. Right up there with the snails that keep spawning in rock and aren’t targetable, so you can TRY to kill (ever so slowly) with AoE - except it resets constantly.

Where’s the quality control? The common sense?

Just to note, Blizz seems to have fixed both the eel-infested waters and the brinestone mining/rare, sometime recently.

In contrast to my original post in this thread, the eel-infested water is now teeming with eels every time I pass it, if someone left it in “red” condition. So, I can either start it myself if it’s fresh (green), or kill eels and re-chum the water if it’s in progress (red).

Gotta ditto this fix for the brinestone cavern. Every time I pass that, either the rare is ready to be started (large brinestone chunk in the middle of the crystal area), is in progress (some crystals need to be “filled”), or is just not up (no crystals / no brinestone).

This is exactly how these rares should function - either they aren’t up, or they are ready to be started (fresh), or they’re in progress and you can jump in when you pass by, even if someone left the summon half done.

TY for the fix, whoever was involved =)

It appears to be bugged again. I just wasted two Uncommon Chums in a red pool of Eel Infested Waters. Nothing happened either time.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen a couple of people complaining about this lately. Although I no longer farm the pool/boss, I regularly pass by it in “stuck” mode, waiting for the white Chum to continue the event, which will never drop because there are no eels to drop it…

Good times.

My problem is I have chum (green), but there is no eel infested waters of any color. No pool to throw it in.

The event isn’t always up. Just like the other two “summonable” bosses (Carnivorous Lasher and the rock cavern one; the name escapes me) you’ll sometimes need to wait for it to be available to start.

Seems most people agree the spawn rate for these summon events is about 30 mins, give or take.

Good luck!
