I logged in today and they just disappeared, left with the default ones, HOURS of work putting them together, gone.

Yeah mine was gone. Had to redo.
same here. and i was able to set a new one up today (since my old one pre launch disappeared) with a character in oribos that i was able to log into. saved it. then got into another character in oribos, and it wasn’t there to choose for that toon. i don’t want to go back to the day where i need to set up each character with the same set up. please bring back my saved layout at least so I can click on it for other toons.
By the time many of us can get on, stay on and completely rebuild Bliz’s Wheel of Fortune UI. We will be far behind our friends. Launch day should have been a fun time and it became a disaster.

first comment in this reddit thread is what was going wrong with me. seems like the game client doesn’t sync the two files, so my edited UIs go kaput
same, and all my addons were reset
I was able to restore mine by getting the import strings directly from C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\_retail_\Logs\EditMode.log. (Your path may be different).
In this file, search for the name of your layout and copy it all the way to the first #K. For example, one of mine is DPS+Pet [lots of random numbers and stuff] #K. This is the import string you can use to restore your layout.
Hopefully, your layout strings are still preserved there!

Thank you so much for this! My UI layout randomly disappeared when changing specs, and it was super frustrating. I tried what you said, and it worked for me! Doing this in 10.1.5, the only difference was that I had to copy up to and include ## rather than #K.
I also saved a separate export string in a Notepad file so I have it totally isolated from the game files going forward, just in case.
