Edit mode just utterly broken (Fixed?)

So uh, yeah. Installed the patch, disabled all my addons to try the new UI. Everything about it seems foundationally broken.

Edit Mode opens, but snap does nothing. Grid causes a purple partial grid to appear (4 lines centered horizontally and vertically) but it doesn’t create a proper full grid. Annoying, but far from the biggest problems.

The checkboxes to reveal additional elements, reveal nothing. Nothing is working properly. Switching between Classic and Modern, the only thing that changes is the location of my character portrait. Meanwhile, a huge number of elements of the HUD are arbitrarily stuck in the top left corner of the screen. Things like my TARGET, my focus, my objectives window, etc.

Best part, if I move everything around and try to actually make a go of it, it won’t actually save anything. It doesn’t let me save anything. It prompts me to create a profile when I hit save, but actually creating one does nothing. The window will just never close. And if I force any and all windows closed, the game just… stays in edit mode. I can’t get out of it without forcing a /reload. Top all of this with even basic frustrations like I can’t resize the chat window anymore, which is FAR too long and won’t fit inside my addon-customized UI once I can properly go back to that after everything is updated.

Just, what the hell, Blizz? Buggy is one thing but we’re talking about the freakin’ UI. Something you NEED to play the damn game. It being this broken is ridiculous.

EDIT: Okay so if anyone’s edit mode is as busted as mine (in the same way, or otherwise), the tried and true very ancient method of just, deleting your Cache and WTF folders fixed it for me. Haven’t had to do that since Wrath lol.
I don’t know what leftovers in those folders was causing this, but those seemed to be the culprits. Once they were regenerated, edit mode at least /seems/ functional right now.

Mine was broken in the same way. Deleting those folders fixed it.

Just remember to back up your WTF and then manually restore any addon settings that you don’t want to reconfigure.

if you exit the game then on your machine go to C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft_retail_\WTF\Account\accountname\server\toonname and delete click-bindings-cache and click-bindings-cache.old files then relaunch it will reset it. allowing you use edit mode…or yeah delete the whole WTF folder works to. Sorry to me deleting the whole folder just to easy to me.

Baffled by what’s been changed. On the PTR and on the first day it was all working fine and I had my UI more or less perfect how I wanted it, now I log in and the broken interface has made gameplay (for me anyway) utterly impossible. The bars all have become weird sizes, the two end dragons and the bar is so long they vanish off-screen, the icons are all grouped together and no amount of moving fixes it, especially as it won’t let me resize them either. I can’t even click on half of them because they are behind other box windows which now refuse to let me click on them to move. Deleting the WTF files seems to be a last resort. What ever the Devs did overnight…please fix it :>

I can’t see my quest log and I the only items that I can edit through the edit mode are the player panel, the cast bar, the chat box, and the mini-map. When I try to check a box to edit anything else I get Lua Errors, they are all similar to this one:

I have tried disabling addons and even uninstalling addons but I still get the same errors.

Holy Crapoly! This actually helped me a TON!!
The simple delete Cache and WTF files did not work whatsoever! Deleting from within the WTF file did!
Thank you so so much for your wisdom!

Only thing I will mention is, if anyone uses this method to help fix the bug. Do the steps, log in and move your UI to your desire all at once, save to character then when you log back in it should have saved<3
If you move a little and then log out and back in to check, whatever you moved the first time you saved to character will save, but it will not save anything else you did after that. You will have to repeat the process if that’s the case </3

I seemed to have found an alternative fix to deleting the WTF folder.

Similar to the above, find a character who works, and save a UI that is global to all chars (Do NOT make a character specific one).

Then:

  1. Access WTF > Account > (AccountName) > (Server) > (WorkingCharacterName)
  2. Look for ‘edit-mode-cache-character.txt’ it should be 6 digits with a whitespace between them. EG. 0 3 0 0 0 0
  3. Go to the character that is currently broken and update the ‘edit-mode-cache-character.txt’ with the same values (This will just copy/select the new UI)

You should now be able to use the Edit Mode functionality as normal.

A note: I noticed if you re-select an old saved UI that you had used (while broken) the same LUA errors appear, but it seems to still work? - I deleted those saves just to be safe

Also, please backup your WTF before you edit. If you change something and it bombs your WTF then it’ll be hard to recover.

Over many patches and time… but now the Company Adds it and we have to do all this???

For me, it seems that whenever i reload or reopen the game, everything is almost fine. The only thing that isn’t working right is i constantly have to move my minimap, even when i have addons installed to move the minimap, it won’t move. It constantly resets to the top right corner, despite the fact i’d like it to at least stay in the middle of the bottom of the screen. I’m not a tech savvy person, so fixing it has been a pain-…
