Quick question on echoing void - is it actually useful for mages? It seems like I need to be close to mobs to actually do any damage with it, and I am typically pretty far away during raids. The sims are telling me it’s great, but I’m sure that’s assuming I’m in melee range.

No. Cleanse it and hope that a better corruption gear drops your way.
Echoing Void (EV) was just nerfed by 50% on Tuesday. I’m not sure the sims are updated yet to reflect this massive nerf.
I tried the nerfed EV at level 3 on some trash packs last night. It accounted for just 3% of my AOE dps. Truly awful!
Couple things here
It was nerfed to be in line with the appendage corruption, and is still good on trash and cleave.
As long as you within a 15 yard range it will hit the mobs. There is a addon called rangecheck that is fantastic for this.
It usually aims around 8-10% when I use it…that’s alot of damage to not have to push a button or do anything since its passive
EV is a good corruption if you have a large enough health pool and can stay in range when it goes off. Which it usually didn’t for me, kept going off when I had to move away from the boss. Until you have TD or IS, it’s good to have.

having tried it out for a week when I got a rank 3 one, i’d say “it depends”
if you are getting up close and personal with mobs a lot, such as in certain m+ dungeons etc, then yeah it can add a healthy chunk to your dps.
however in fights where you are blasting from range, it does absolutely nothing for you.
The BIG deciding factor I think, is what your total corruption level is, i’m also running rank 2 infinite stars, so with rank 3 void (and rank 10 cloak) I was still sitting solidly in cascading disaster area, and while it was “manageable” it was a bigger pain in the a$$ than the added dps on only certain encounters was worth. at least to me.
if you are running content that puts you in face-punch distance on a regular basis, and you can handle the corruption then 100% keep it. but if you aren’t getting full value from it, regularly, then i’d say drop it if you can’t manage the corruption.
