Will they become relevant to the story at some point?
The kobyss’s entire thing seems to be necromancy and the DKs entire job is basically hunting down necromancers at this point to stop the spread of undeath
So, will it happen?

It’s definitely an interesting possibility! The Kobyss (assuming you mean the kobold-like necromantic race introduced in The War Within) have strong ties to undeath, while Death Knights (DKs) are now more focused on stopping uncontrolled necromantic threats rather than spreading undeath themselves. Given that thematic conflict, it would make sense for Blizzard to explore their relationship in the story.
Blizzard hasn’t confirmed anything, but if Kobyss are more than just random necromancers and have a major story arc, DKs should logically be involved. However, Blizzard sometimes avoids making class-specific storylines too central, so while we might get some minor interactions, a full DK vs. Kobyss war seems unlikely unless necromancy becomes a main focus of The War Within or a future expansion.
Would be cool to see, though!
They barely had a part to play in Shadowlands. The expansion where it made the most sense to include them into the story. No base of operations or anything meaningful other than Bolvar standing in Oribos.
So I’d say “no”, they will not factor into the TWW story. Blizzard’s story telling doesn’t really allow for any more than 2-3 characters to get screen time and development.
I do love me some DK lore and characters though.
The Ebon Blade barely exists after getting massacred pushing into the maw (and unfortunately shadowlands still happened in lore), so I highly doubt it. There’s no Lich King, just Bolvar Hammerman and the 4 horsemen as well as whatever handful of survivors lasted through the slaughter all the way to the covenants pushing into the Maw and Sanctum of Domination.
Are you trying to get use out of your ChatGPT subscription?
I’m sure itll happen soon, we’ll be relevant again
Bah, that was the mass raised ones after the 4th one, mere cannon fodder
I’m sure they’ll give us a nice update anyday now, like how warlocks got all that pet customization
I mean, I assume during The Last Titan expansion and going back to Northrend, the Ebonblade will show up. They had a base there, and well, whatever remaining mindless Scourge still roaming might be a threat.
I picture The Last Titan as an Avengers level expansion where all in game factions or organizations are represented in some way as they come together to stop whatever threat we’re facing. Knights of the Ebonblade, Cenarion Circle, Earthen Ring, Illidari, Kirin Tor, Knights of the Silver Hand, Argent Crusade etc etc etc.
Didn’t all the scourge get cleaned up in the two weeks Sylvanas had before we followed her to the Maw? Shadowlands power scaling woo
I mean we did have an avengers scene rip off already and DKs were just not there at all, even DHs got something from the emerald dream cuz yea
I could full on see new northrend being pure paladin focused and DK just an after thought, if its even thought about at all
Who knows. I assume it would be impossible to fully eradicate them all for an entire continent. The pre-expansion event for Shadowlands was going around Icecrown to kill returned bosses from Northrend. So idk. The Scourge invasions happened on Azeroth in random places iirc. I don’t know how canonical the event in Icecrown is though, if at all.
probably not, but they’ll very likely have a very prominent role in The Last Titan, as it takes place in Northrend.
I highly doubt that. You can not think of Northrend, Icecrown, the Frozen Throne, without Arthas and Death Knights.
It is slipping my mind what the name of it is, but there is the DK base there in Icecrown that you claim during Wrath. It phases from hostile to a Ebonblade base as you progress. The Shadow Vault?
yup.
that is also where you get the Ebon Blade Tabard.
It would be cool to see that still being occupied by the Death Knights.
No, there were still plenty of Scourge left. There was a blood-elf-exclusive quest dealing with a San’layn elite that escaped Northrend and started causing major problems in the Ghostlands late in Shadowlands. Comments in both that questline as well as optional dialogue around Oribos after the main Shadowlands campaign was over hinted at Northrend becoming a warzone between different Scourge elites, forming their own smaller factions and fighting each other for power and control of Scourge holdings.
The last information we had on the Ebon Blade was that they planned to head to Northrend after leaving the Shadowlands, with the aim of reclaiming and holding ICC in order to prevent any other former Scourge from accessing any remaining power that might be found there. Their longer-term goal was to keep the surviving Scourge from being a problem for the rest of Azeroth. Koltira and Thassarian were able to take some time off to enjoy the anniversary festivities, and based on Koltira’s commentary things seem to be relatively calm for the Ebon Blade currently, so perhaps they’ve achieved their main goals in Northrend. Bolvar effectively retired at the end of Shadowlands after Darion insisted that he do so for Taelia’s sake, which means that Darion’s been back in charge of the Ebon Blade since.
I’m hoping that the Ebon Blade put in a good appearance in The Last Titan, especially since they should be in charge of ICC now, but I don’t expect them to be present in any major way before then. I’d love to be wrong though; Koltira at least could make an appearance in Midnight if the existence of the Darkfallen is addressed at all.
Icecrown Citadel should be the Expansion Capital for The Last Titan.
UNLESS Blizzard wants to go back to the Horde and Alliance having separate stuff, then they could repurpose Warsong Hold and Valiance Keep for that.
ICC makes more sense than the old Horde and Alliance settlements due to its fairly central location, and the Ebon Blade having an existing goal of taking over gives a good excuse to update it and revisit it as a quest hub. There are other options, such as building something on the Terrace of the Makers or getting a proper look at Azjol-Nerub, but it would be so cool to have ICC as the hub.
Yeah, Icecrown Citadel is on the border and has gates to both Icecrown and Dragonblight. It’d make a good city/hub.
I hope so, that would be so cool. IIRC they had plans to release it, but instead repurposed it into dungeons.
It was meant to be a questing zone in Wrath, but the scope was too big to pull off in the time they had. With Zaralek and TWW showing that the devs now have the ability to stack zones vertically and seamlessly go between them without a load screen, as well as the massive amount of new Nerubian art assets made for TWW, I really hope that we get to revist Azjol-Nerub in TLT.
