Easy mode class, Hunter?

Id like to point out that suggesting people use hunters for an “easy mode” class, is going to turn out incredibly bad for everyone. Especially if you’re in a dungeon and they’re pulling everything with auto shots and multi shots. Sure, leveling is easier but please keep your pets growl off, and do not pull extra groups of mobs. Thanks!

One question, do you have any tips for fighting rogues on hunters!

Purchase Free Action Potion (very cheap). Use it. Go into aspect of the cheetah or hawk while keeping distance from rogue. Profit.

Hunter is extremely easy to level…if you know what you’re doing. It takes some level of know how to delegate your pet to attack/off tank for you. But once you set up some bindings for pet control, it’s literally playing the game in a 2 man party all the time. Extremely easy.

As for no skill easy mode? Frost mage imo.

Hunter is the ez-mode class unfortunately, it takes virtually no skill to lvl quickly with very few issues once you get your pet.

As for fighting rogues: track hidden, flares, traps, and putting your pet on aggressive will carry you through most engagements. Mail will let you survive their opening stun if they’re able to even get it off, scatter shot afterwards so you can get some distance, and then just don’t let them get close again.

don’t forget when a pet bugs out and aggros , well just about everything.

What is this post even?
btw I played a PS finally.
two times in deadmines, tank that didn’t know what they doing pulling wise.
I then took over pulling and pulled the entire instance for the group. At many points I pulled single mobs where people did not know that was even possible into our grp to kill, once mob 50% I went and grabbed another.

I even pulled the goblin engineers, you know with the bots that do load of dmg and cant be taunted off. Had group focus the goblin while I kited the bots.

Hunter as a class is a powerful tool of ultimate destruction, but if you know little of what you are doing you will get yourself or others killed. Tab off to the wrong mob and here comes an extra pack, send your pet in when pulling and here comes an extra pack, jump over something without dealing with pet properly here comes MANY extra packs.

Yes I do!
You want to go a BM/MM hybrid.
Macro Feign Death to use Freezing Trap afterwards.
When a rogue jumps you, or any melee gets on you really, you will use scatter shot to stop them initially, then use FD>Freezing trap to CC them. Get a good distance between you two. Aimed shot concussive shot.

Bonus: There are some mobs that drop a net root item you can use at range!

Hunter’s Mark is a MUST use on all rogues.

Get an addon like YaHT. Learn to use it. It will help maintain you getting the most shots off while kiting. Learn to 360 jump concussive shot. Kite that rogue like no other.

Another fave trick was FD right as they reach you then use wing clip and run through them. Wing Clip is not as effective as concussive but it lasts longer. Or you could FD>Frost trap for the aoe slow or freezing trap for CC>then do whatever.

Don’t forget to have your pet on aggressive. That way it will attack as soon as the rogue gets close to you even if they haven’t hit you yet. Nothing throws a rogue off more then their stealth opener getting ruined by a large cat eating their face.

This is another good one. But remember to passive your pet right as you are about to CC.

It’s also wise to make a macro that makes your pet attack and on second click stop attacking.

im sure your tips will be great for newb hunters. most of all if they are new to classic in and of its self. but one correction- they are ‘not’ easy mode, in vanilla. take that current meme into classic and people will have a rude awakening coming. just to point out how ironic this op is-
says hunters are easy mode in classic.
yet ask’s for help on how to beat a rogue in pvp.

ya know, just saying.

that said, pvping with rogues or any melee class- is about kiting and stun locking/trapping. your main objective is to keep distance, however way you can. if they close distance, you are pretty screwed and the only thing you can do is run around in circles like a chicken. not much of a hunter if you are doing that lol. CC, distance, dps. rinse and repeat. concussive shot is your friend. Best friend. also, yes. putting your pet on aggressive will cause the pet to stay onto the rogue regardless of if they are stealthed. which will break their stealth constantly.

ps; my own tip. ‘always’ dismiss your pet before ANY drop down. of any height. pets did not have the auto drop like they do now in current. if you are in a dungeon and drop down, without dismissing your pet- it will run the entire way and pull every mob behind you and get your raid destroyed.

NEVER have your pet out in a full raid…

Hunters have both a low skill floor and a high skill ceiling in Vanilla. That’s probably part of what led to the whole “Huntard” thing: They’re very easy to play, but not to easy to master.

Getting the most DPS out of your class at level 60 requires being able to weave Aimed Shots in between auto shots, which in terms of DPS rotations in Vanilla that’s one of the more complicated mechanics.

If you’re going to PvP in any capacity you also want to learn how to jump shot: The act of jumping, turning around mid-air, shooting, then turning back so you don’t ever lose forward movement speed while firing at targets directly behind you.

Against Rogues also remember to utilize your anti-stealth: Hunter’s Mark, Flare, and Track Hidden.

Ok? You dont know me personally or my experience… I havent played Private servers and when I played classic i was really young and did only 0.5 tier item grinding + played alts (not a hunter). I have seen a lot of your post and as I greatly appreciate your advice here? Im not your enemy. Nor am i looking to judge your gameplay on hunter, i instead would like to learn anything you’re willing to share. If you read my post you’d catch my irony of questioning peoples claims that hunters are “easy mode,” as I quoted above. From what i remember from other expansions and im sure its happened quite a few times to me in vanilla (that i can recall) hunters pulling mobs because they right clicked or multi shot. Also, to check my credibility, you can see my achievements to see that i have been playing since that time frame, not that there is a specific vanilla achievement, but i do have a very early BC achievement that i feel should be adequate? Thanks again for the advice, im sure youre quite knowledgeable on hunters, friend.

There’s a reason why there are so many mages at 60.

If FD not on CD.
FD>Trap.

If your abils like scatter shot, pet stun or so on CD as well as FD then aspect monkey up and be prepared to take some dmg until they are off CD. And don’t waste the time either. Try to move around the opponent keeping wingclip up, if they are an idiot and don’t slow you right away then after wingclip run for it to concussive and kite. But if they got you slowed and no CDs up then do dmg while you are stuck in melee don’t try to run away.

In vanilla almost every hunter I fought and killed that out leveled me or vastly out geared me was due to me FD’ing then getting them stuck in melee. They’d blow the entire fight trying to gain ground while I focused on dmging them.

Edit:
To be honest, every single hunter I fought in PVP I melee’d. Because every one of them freaked out and focused on getting ground to ranged. And they would almost always fail. This is one note as to how I became known on my realm for being a top notch pvp hunter because no other hunter was able to 1v1 me. All because they focused too much on gaining ground.

The best and worst part of hunters is the same part.
They level solo and play solo and pvp solo so well that most hunters get very little practice using their hunter in groups and thus when the go to raids most have a terrible time in the raid. There are exceptions but you should not expect to be amazing in group content if you hardly ever do anything but solo.

The entire point of referencing hunters to be an “easy mode” class is something most of us have not seen in an age. Seeing the thought of the class as such was off putting and even though you were targeting the statement itself the mere fact of bringing it up left a bad taste.

I’d wager that the hunter class is likely one of the most complicated classes in the game overall. As said before, low skill floor but high skill ceiling. One of the reasons I love the class so much.

Here’s a great example.
43 elite tiger King Bangalash. Summons 2 adds.
Solo’d at lvl 36.
Most hunters would run in, put pet on him, get forced to heal, get ravaged by adds, try to put the pet-oh wait pet dead. FD or die.
Instead. . .
I concussive shot him, led him to the road, then down the road kiting him with my pet doing all the dmg. aspect cheetah up, 360 shotting him with distracting shot and concussive shot any add or him that got too close. Making sure to stay just barely ahead of his adds. Managed to get the kill.

The reputation of being “easy mode” is not without warrant. It is a simple class to pick up and play to a serviceable level. However, as others have already said, the skill cap is very high. When you encounter a hunter who knows how to play it well, you will know it and appreciate it. Likewise, when you encounter one who hasn’t progressed beyond the basics, you will remember how “huntard” became a thing. The latter is more prevalent than the former, unfortunately.

True.
I always try to teach hunters I run into when in the game in any aspect I can.

On that note: If anyone here plans on hunter and wants to try the class but is either extremely rusty or new to it, I am always here to help. I will also be remaking this hunter as my main again.

That is a fair point. But to also be fair, the primary reason to bring a hunter to a raid is to pull things, especially adds to tanks on boss fights
