I’m a returning player looking to hit 1800 and get the mount. I usually play preservation, but I heard it’s not good. Would either of the other two specs be better for pushing in SS or 2s? Also if anyone can link me a good build, it would be much appreciated.
If I had to guess, dev probably for SS. It does a lot of damage at least. Pres may be okay for 2s but you’re going to struggle.

I vote Dev if you are a kinda decent player
The damage profile is among the simplest in the game. But is doesn’t have forgiving defense. The hard part is positioning, preemptively using defensives, and getting the most out of your limited utility

3 man stun into 3 man TTS fire breath into aoe cleave hope someone dies.
Can’t even tell you, seeing as how I’m not putting up with those Q times.
But in the one game I did I kinda just pumped. Try to pillar peak with Disintegrate to avoid damage. Don’t feel like you have to always be hovering. Save hover for avoiding serious damage or keeping pressure. Sometimes your healer can help you face tank pure sustain.
It’s not as popular anymore as it’s (I guess) not as blatantly overpowered, but I would imagine Augmentation is still the most scripted Evoker spec. You can almost treat each entire round as like one long spellcasting chain that you don’t really deviate from ever. Preservation is a very difficult spec, and Devastation is simple but punishing.
Obviously to be the best Aug you need to play the best, but you can probably autopilot your way to 1800 even before further inflation. I don’t have direct experience from the current season as if I’m sitting a DPS queue it’s going to be my main spec, which is Devastation, but the gameplay only seems to have changed a bit with the new tier set.

Devastation has insane damage output. Plenty of them on the ladder cranking usually with another caster especially frost mage. Pres is the weakest or 2nd weakest healer. I haven’t seen a single augmentation all season that’s how bad they are but I can’t confirm due to no evidence.
It’s amazing to me, having played season 1, that Evoker is so bad, it felt like they were going to be the next DH and be the beloved always overtuned class.
Uh. Aug was hated because it’s a tank spec. Dev has a tiny kit from beginning so they kept buffing damage changing nothing else and now it’s finally strong due to math. Pres is just weak undertuned I don’t know why not buffed yet. Shrug
i’d give up meld for lizards to be gone, fair trade tbh
