This is insane. I don’t have the tusks and I do envy them when I see people have their shoulders mogged, whether it took them 1,000 runs or got lucky during the 1st run running Siege of Orgrimmar for the mount, it’s rare and it’s a status symbol.
What’s the point of making it easier to obtain? Whether you admit it or not, and before those “elitist” comments start to drop, item rarity has always been a thing in MMOs and it’s the very fabrics of what many people working toward, to become “special” in some way and that makes them feel better about themselves. By making items easier to obtain, is a serious slap in the face to many that worked hard to obtain them and destroy the item in the progress. Yeah there are many players that won’t agree with this view and Blizzard catering to these players is fundamentally wrong. Many times the customers do not know what they want and the company has to guide the customers on what’s defining their product. The Sha mount and now the tusks, making them easy to obtain just making them irrelevant, turning them from prestige items to collection +1 and never use them, despite what players say. Point out a single item that’s relatively easy to obtain and everyone uses them, there’s none. Even if you bring the Corrupted Ashbringer back and making it easily accessible, nobody will transmog it because it is no longer special.
I hope Blizzard starts to get some sense and stop this making items easier to obtain non-sense, it destroy the game.
I finally decided to start farming it hardcore two weeks ago and obviously it hasn’t dropped yet, but I am committed to farming it. Seeing this very likely change just makes me wonder what’s left to work on in a game that’s over 20 years old.

I think it’s fine to have very few exceptionally rare items like this exist. It’s healthy for an MMO. Going too far is bad (Mechagon having 2 very rare mounts with lame skins) but a handful should exist as long as they’re not removed.
Um, how is adding another way to obtain certain items destroying the game?
Why would you bother farming a rare item if Blizz will eventually just make it available to everyone for a fraction of the effort? You will be better off just waiting.
Also, there’s a reason you remember seeing someone with the scarab mount or Death’s Demise title and not Fel Drake (anymore).
Is this by Blizzard’s word that it should be rare or by the community word? Besides, still have to play to the game to get the cosmetic version of the shoulders… What are you saying? Should be gatekeeping others on having other means to obtain a cosmetic item?
Like seriously, this is Blizzard’s game. They can do what ever they want with every single item in the game. You technically don’t own anything in the game, including any cosmetic appearances that you’ve already obtained.
