The one thing I’ve observed since starting to play in Classic that it appears to be a lot harder to earn gold on pve servers than it does on pvp servers, and I wondered if anyone had any advice or could point me to any good guides to make gold as a low level toon on pve.
On pvp servers, for example, I can do things like level up fishing and go fish up Oily Blackmouth which is in demand for a variety of pvp-centric items like the Free Action potion, etc. They can sell for a very nice amount and I have around 30g on a level 25 toon on a pvp server. But such things don’t seem to sell anywhere near as well on pve servers.
Yes, I realise at higher levels you can make decent money in various zones, but Im talking about making enough early on to level up the abilities, level up the proffs and get a decent start on gold for the mount. So any advice or pointers would be appreciated.
You might not have the prices you want on some items. But PVE has the ease of farming mobs and nodes without the area being camped my enemy factions. Our sever has constant battles at the elementals to the point its not even worth farming.
Constant battles over thoruim in silithus i cant even count how many nodes i lost to a rogue inturpting my mine and getting me killed.
I realise the difference between pvp and pve. And I am not talking about elements or thorium, which are higher level mats.
I am talking about toons from 1 - 40, especially the lower end so I can earn enough - as I said - to pay levelling up costs, spell costs and still save enough towards the mount.
The Free action potions and other PVP consumables won’t go up in price on a PvE server until BGs release.
Free Action Potions on my server have went from 25s to like 1.5g in the last week because people are stocking up on them.
On a PvE server the best way to make gold is still 2 gathering professions I would imagine, just vendor them if the sell price minus AH cut is around vendor price.
You can always grind out a level on mobs that have good grey vendor items to get a bit here and there. Sometimes you can get a BoE drop that’s worth some cash.
There are a few level 30-40 zones you can grind for vendor greys that can give you about 10g an hour.
The price of materials purchased with gold are market driven. Players will generally pay an amount close to what they think it’s worth. On a PvE server, many things are easier and safer and consistent and faster to do in the open world. This is why things cost less gold. Even leveling a toon from 1-40 is much easier on a PvE server.
Even then the flood of materials are so high that almost everything sells for vendor cost on AH anyway. So the most consistent money making methods involve vendoring grey, white, green drops and making cloth into bandages before vendoring those.
