Is it really necessary to continue having flight solely gated behind a completionist achievement (or two) in content that is no longer current? I’m not arguing to change what we have now in current max-level content. I’m talking about old stuff: Draenor and the Broken Isles.
I don’t want the achievements removed, I think that having them still grant speed boosts, flight across the account, and extra mounts is a very good thing. But I do strongly believe that the flight portion of these older achievements needs to be separated from the other rewards in a way that lets players choose what they want to do once the content becomes obsolete and people have moved on.
Make Flight for an old, non-current, obsolete expansion something that can be purchased once a character reaches the level cap for that content and new, current content has been released. But only for that character. Just like other mount speed/flight training.
Keep the achievements rewards intact. If a player wants to save the gold by doing the achievements that grants flight across the entire account, this is an option. Also remains as a permanent reward for having done it when it was current. Let players choose.
Current pathfinder should unlock flying in all past expansions. There is no reason other than spite to keep flying so locked down. I hate the dev’s stance on flying.
If it wasn’t slightly gated everyone would complain leveling up was so boring because you just fly from quest to quest with no effort involved. The achievements take a few weeks each at most and are account unlocks. Besides they need to leave something for people to do in the lull between expansions.
This is the feeling that my suggestion is trying to address. Even if your alt were stuck on the ground, you would know that at 100 or 110 flight would be yours for a fee, and you could move on to the latest content without worrying about it. And then come back later to knock out those old Pathfinder 'chieves if you feel like it.
Which is why I would not suggest that they be removed. I am strongly against removal of achievements. Leave them in. Let people grind them out in their downtime if they want the rewards. But let it be the player’s choice.
as long as players have the option to choose in current content as well.
the same reason for flying exists as when the content was current, you have to experience the content first before you fly over it.
People playing draenor content, leveled up alts through there for 9 months or so using ground mounts, I really can’t see why you need to be able to fly when leveling up one or two characters when you likely are just passing through.
Away with Pathfinder and instead of keeping folks on the ground, design zones for flight.
I mean they did this in Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King then just kinda…decided flying was a problem they needed to design around and not for.
I am waiting for them to become liars again when it comes to draenor and legion content, once people earned flying there if they choose to level up characters from lvl 10 onwards in that content they should be able to fly.
Everything in the game is a HUGE grind now; Getting flying, in Draenor, seemed kind of easy by comparison. My Hunter did it during a Legion time-gate.
Some of you don’t seem to “get it”, when you ask for this over and over; Blizzard WANTS you to to have to go back and grind it out. They already KNOW you want it easier, same thing with allied races/whatever.
I really suspect it won’t. See, that is the problem; Players keep hoping this, just like unlocking a particular allied race or something. From Blizzard’s perspective, it isn’t even current content so if you really want to do it then take the time to unlock it.
You: “Hey, with the leveling squish my character is doing Draenor so I should be able to unlock flight there finally with gold!”
Blizzard: “Well, since you are already there on that character anyway… it makes unlocking it the regular way more appropriate!”
Agreed. And with my suggestion, flight could only be purchased by a character once that character reached the level cap for the outdated content they want to fly in. Exactly the same way that flight at level 60 works. Or earning your epic ground speed at level 40.
It is outdated content. The idea is to get players to experience what’s happening now. Not spending weeks grinding out something that has already passed it’s expiration date.
The point is Player Choice. Get flight on one character, or do the grind and get the bigger reward of flight on ALL characters.
