I was very excited for TWW, especially when I saw that Chris Metzen is back and involved in the project. I was going to go all out with WoW again, just as I did for most of the expansions for the past 20 years I’ve played this game. When I saw that 3 day early access was locked behind a $90 paywall, I lost so much interest. This just isn’t right. Not only do you have to buy it if you want to play with friends and guild members who bought it but it also dilutes the hype of launch day for a new WoW expansion. The early access period isn’t technically launch, and won’t have the same vibes as launch days for new WoW expansions did in the past.
Retail WoW just isn’t the same anymore. It has lost so much of its soul, and the vibes it once had simply aren’t there. Playing classic WoW through WOTLK was a truly nostalgic experience for me since I was there the first time around for those. I enjoyed it so much, and I would play it all over again if they started over. I wish retail stirred that same emotion in me, but its long felt dead to me for awhile now.
Where are people getting this from? Is there some streamer out there acting like launch day is somehow some positive experience? Do people honestly like game crashes, lag, waiting for respawns, missing tags, etc?
So many I know won’t play for days until after launch, because they don’t want to deal with the stuff that goes on during launch. Heck, I’ve even waited a week for some expansions to start playing.
I have the Epic edition. I’m not even going to play early access.
What is anyone else supposed to say to you? You’re not hyped for this over a paywall, and you seem upset that some friends of yours and guildmates are getting early access. You’ve said your peace. I’m not going to convince you otherwise, so I said “Ok.”
Believe it or not, not every opinion is formulated around that of a streamer. I know shocking right? Some people actually are capable of thinking for themselves and giving their own genuine opinion.
It has evolved into a hollow shell of what it once was.
Maybe something more than just “Ok” if they aren’t interested in what is being talked about. Why even waste time replying for just that?
The point is pay walling 3 day early access behind the most expensive version of the game is wrong and completely unnecessary.
I have never seen more criticism over retail WoW than I did with Shadowlands and DF. The game has not evolved well over time, which is more factual than subjective.
Why? It’s part of a larger bundle. Many games do this.
Funny thing about criticism… it’s subjective.
I hated SL. And I’m not the biggest fan of the shoddy job and all of the bugs going on right now. I have little interest in more dwarves or half elf Paladins for next expansion.
But I’m not going to try to claim the game is dying.
I mean yeah I guess it’s a lot like EQ’s 4,000 expansions at this point and it’ll just keep going. But eh $40 for a bunch of things and early access isn’t much tbh.
I get it, it’s the principal of it that early access is behind a paywall – but I bet if you had just a few extra bucks (and that’s all it is) to cover the difference you would have purchased early access, plus having access to the beta, plus, plus, etc goodies.
I purchased early access with all the other goodies, and I have zero regrets. In before, I’m a veteran player by the way and not a wrath, cata or panda baby. I go way back. I support Blizz’s choice and my solid choice too.
I bet gamers pay $90 and get a lot less, far more often than they’d be willing to admit.
This $90 isn’t for you. That’s fine. Go enjoy another game with a lower cost. GLHF.
I really am curious how many people purchased the epic edition specifically for early access and beta access. I purchase the collector’s edition since WoW came out, so those things weren’t even a factor for me. Mounts, toys, and transmog will get my attention, but those things mean little to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll use them because they’re there, but I didn’t go out of my way for them.
