EA being taken private

According to the New York times Electronic Arts is going private in a $55B deal that appears to be mostly financed by the Saudi’s.

EA doing potentially shady activities?!
Say it ain’t so.

And someone else that would get this thread nuked.

Around half the buy out is from a loan using EA (what is being bought) as collateral.

TBH I thought EA had some good will in very recent history. But now I think they are just on my permanent “never buy from list” now.

this is a good and bad thing
good is that the share holders cant force them to put out an unfinished item.
bad might be an annually BF games which is bad.

20+ billion dollars in debt may still push that

Well, easy to not buy any EA products again

Did EA finish losing the Star Wars IP yet?

Isn’t Dragon Age an EA distribution as well?

Always sad.

Back in the before times when games were on 64k floppy disks that took many minutes to load into a C64, the square circle triangle of EA was always a mark of quality,

It is.

The only thing I care about is Mass Effect tbh though. But hey, I can survive without it.

The involved buyers are concerning in that they are not known for being gamers. Or having dev experience. Unless Kushner took a UE course or something. We’ll see. I’ve not bought an EA game in a very long time anyway

Technically, Activision / Blizzard was taken private when bought by Microsoft and absorbed into Microsoft Games. The company no longer has active stock and does not need to file quarterly results. They are just a line item in the much bigger Microsoft.

But private equity often sees more value in selling off parts than there are in the original company.

OMFG, you’re not getting BF6?!?!!?! Lol Yuck.

Ive never really been into the shooter games like that. I think the last one I really enjoyed was MAG. Which most people dont even remember or played.

Was telling my guild the other day when they asked me if I was getting it and said my last FPS was Unreal Tournament in 1999. Lol

I played a ton of Quake Arena back in the day when it first launched. That was my thing.

UT2k4 instagib Bombing run leagues for me.

Miss pure action FPS’s without RPG like progression trees and game shops.

It seems e-sports are actually huge there now. Might be a solid investment for them I guess.

See, i loved trees.

MAG had different class role trees. Coms were nearly required.

It had squad/platoons and their own communication.

And 128 vs 128 goal themed battles. ALL ON A PS2. Without lag.

Hard to say, other than sitting on huge oil reserves they haven’t been shown to be great at business.

And only a slightly better frienemmy than China.
