I think it’s amusing when I’m mining and my passenger gets killed because I got distracted or was too slow.

You mean EZ mine? I’m not sure I would classify this as a “troll”. If it exploded and didn’t give you ore, that would be a troll.
Weaver’s pact… That is all there is to it. I know the general’s bombs are fun, but the weaver’s makes gold.
If this was intended as a joke Blizzard could have done better.
Attempting to mine EZ-Mine nodes has a base 99% of dying modified by a debuff from Overloading an Irradiated Herb.
If you are turned into an Irradiated Gnome, the base chance of dying is reduced to 75% but you give the node ore for the next player to gather.
If you are turned into an Irradiated Trogg, the base chance of dying is reduced to 50% but you have to kill the next player attempting to mine it in order to receive your ore.
If you are turned into an Irradiated Earthern, you will no longer die and yield increases by 100%, but it takes you 10 minutes to mine the node.
Those would be Blizzard trolling the players.

I would just leave it there really! 
Do not feed the trolls an all that.
Stand on the node, not the ground and it won’t hit you.
