Dynamic respawn out of control?

I was in Duskwood last night, killing worgen around 9:00 PM, and the dynamic respawn was way out of control. I couldn’t kill anything fast enough to make any progress across a geographic area, unless the mobs were 2 levels below me.

Has anyone else noticed the dynamic respawn has ramped up in intensity lately, or has my killing speed just slowed down?

Someone in General chat remarked, “Welcome to vanilla,” which got me thinking. I played in TBC. I do remember it being challenging, I do remember monsters spawning on top of you (which has always been a thing), but I don’t ever remember the respawn rate being as high as it is in Classic. What gives? Was Vanilla really a respawn intensive hell?

In other words, is the current respawn rate a mere side effect of scaling Vanilla’s respawn rate to the current population levels, or has the Classic dev team tweaked respawn to correct for what they perceive as a logistical problem?

Yeah ive experienced this myself all over. If you are trying to solo quest you almost have to wait and be at least a level or two above the mobs or the respawns will get you. I was in a mine last night and by the time i got to where the goblin quest was, mobs already spawned behind me. It’s definitely been painstaking but we push through it!

There have been multiple threads on this
Having said that…

I sure am happy to have vanish when i kill something and it respawns at my feet… instantly…

that’s how it was in vanilla

doing quests in certain areas solo was basically impossible for a lot of classes at the intended level

I was watching a bot in the … area and was stopping after the spot of respawn and the NPC was looking the other way…
The bot would then go to the left. Then right… The NpC was tracking right behind them…

There are spots in the world, for example the Test Of Endurance cave in 1k Needles, that has literal instantaneous respawns, regardless of proximity of other players to the cave. The only place I’ve seen it this bad was on private servers.

No it wasn’t. What we are describing was in no way the same in vanilla.

I was somewhere killing trogs trying to get a sweet treasure. There was 5 total trogs. When i finally killed the last one and went to the treasure another spawned breaking the open of the treasure. I killed him and went to open the treasure and it happened again. It went on for about 40 minutes. i was finally able to kill faster than the next respawn to be able to open the chest. Get my sweet cup of milk, and 2 light leathers

Yeah I played Vanilla and only certain areas had fast spawning, most didn’t and remember waiting around a lot in certain zones.

It’s really exciting in world places that have elite mobs. I kinda like it. But hey the games too simple, right?

I’ve had these issues with the crypt type areas where you have to go into the basement stairway type of area and all the mobs are respawning and patrolling right behind you as you descend

Some places spawn damn near instantly, some you have to wait so long your can regain full mana without drinking. It needs a bit of tweaking to correct both, IMHO.

It has been corrected. All the things wrong with classic are corrected in Retail. It is Retail you are looking for.

I was wondering if it’s the layering. I would run into an area and think oh someone’s cleared it. Next minute all the mobs appear and I’m dead.

It’s not server lag I have 10ms.

If you dislike classic, why are you on the classic forum?

Retail sucks, but you go have fun!

I never said I disliked Classic. Just because I play both and can’t be bothered swapping characters back and forth just to post on a forum. You assume things.

I dislike people whining when they got what was advertised. Classic.

It’s lessened alot since launch for a good while mobs would spawn almost instantly. They wouldn’t even drop to the floor before they respawned. Now I rarely see that. Occasionally I’ll see it randomly. More so if there’s more people in the area.

I know this is old but I just had the same thing happen as OP. I was in Duskwood, I killed a bunch of mobs, it seemed like I phased because all of the carcasses vanished and mobs faded and then faded back and everything was respawned.
