Dynamic Flying: Blizzard's Latest Monkey Paw

Blizz, you’re advertising Dynamic Flying as a feature of your expansion. Why would you choose to deploy it like this? It should feel like an improvement, not an impediment.

Before the patch, I had it great. Could Dragonfly with some mounts and steady fly with other mounts, could swap seamlessly, could even hop off my dragon and druid form into a bird in mid-air.

And now, all my mounts are globally locked to one or the other, some don’t even fly (lookin at you, Otter), druid flight form is also locked to whatever you choose, and there’s this absolutely CLUNKY, needlessly long swap ability.

Just…why? Why would you make things worse? This is supposed to be a FEATURE people get excited about. Yeah, dragonflying on my honeybee is super, but functionally indistinct from another dragon mount. Aesthetically, it is nice, but functionally, this is a step backwards.

Please reconsider this deployment. The easiest solution, probably, is to remove the ridiculous 5-second cast on the swap ability, but even that’s worse than before.

Good god, you’re making me feel like the people in The Monkey’s Paw, who use their last wish to make the monster outside the door just go away.

This is a real bummer of a loss. Was so nice to fly around on a dragon and find an area rich in resources and chests and insta pop into flight form.

I’m trying to figure out how you think this is “completely” optional.

I think the more interesting issue is why are people so invested in making everyone needlessly endure this additional 5 second transition over and over and over again?

What’s the purpose of it? How does it improve the game? There’s an obvious reason people don’t want to sit there over and over watching a needless cast bar, but what’s the reason people want to force us to endure it?

Sad bitter people. Even if something doesn’t bother them, there’s something wrong with their brain that cant stand to see things get better for other people. Just a broken personality :man_shrugging:t4:

It’s quite the contrast to how phenomenally well received dragonriding was. Extending that flight style to all other flying mounts is a great idea. But doing it at the cost of regular flying is very boneheaded. I mean they saw how upset people get when their access to regular flying is inhibited back in WoD. And every time they’ve mentioned the term “pathfinder”. I don’t know why they thought people’s attachment to it had waned.

My guess would be stick with one type or the other.

It’s the Blizzard way. If they add something you enjoy, you must also be punished for it.

Ten seconds is clunky and needlessly long? Is this a generation thing, like “Kids these days want everything right now” taken to an extreme?

It’s ten seconds. Six seconds really, to make the switch.

I agree with you and would like to add there is no communication with blizzard in beta despite them taking out an ad / game article about how they are listening to players.

It should be evident to all that they are not.

At this point I’m so sick of seeing these flying threads flood the forum. Just give it to them so they quit their crying about it.

It’s a WOW forum…so people are discussing WOW problems. Clearly it does not mean it’s the only problem in their life…duh.

You are posting on a forum about an issue you believe is useless to point out that people need to get lives? That is some extreme meta trolling right there.

Is it the end of the world? No. It is a dumb punitive change? Yes.

It should be instant cast and dismount you, or not dismount you and cast at 1.5 seconds.

If don’t truly properly we should be able to set all mounts that are favorites to one flying style or the other. Options are good, and punitive time hits are bad. People being annoyed by it are fine. Telling them they need to get lives is not.

One of the Roman Emperors got into major trouble because it took them more than 10 seconds to build their 14th aqueduct. The engineer said “Well you know there are some rocks to the east that should be better for the foundation than …”

And the crowd yelled “That’s more than ten seconds, why isn’t it finished !!!”.

I canʻt think of any situation where either mode is absolutely necessary for anything.

If Blizzard keeps giving us all these monkey paws, I want to know that Blizzard is treating those monkeys in a humane way.

They remove functionality and advertise it as a feature. This is how dumb they think the players are.

I can give you two. Dragonriding is necessary for the dragonriding races, and static flying is pretty well necessary in any situation you need to hover, including but not limited to finding the little purple daisies to bop so you the seed opens in Ardenweald in the Shadowlands.

This is not proper parenting advice.

It’s funny it didn’t seem that bad on paper because we were blinded by all mounts being able to skyride. But in game it absolutely sucks especially for Druids. Now I’d rather go back than have this trash.
