Dynamic Flight on Dracthyr feels amazing this is how it should’ve been from the start. Also I love having dynamic flight in all the old zones it feels so good to get around so quickly. I have to say it’s my favorite part of this update.
I agree…I love it!
I thought it was fabulous, until I realized that when you land, you are automatically “dismounted.” You can’t gather in “soar form” like you can on a regular dragon riding mount (if you’ve invested the KP into that, of course). You can’t just land and look around to see where you need to go without having to mount up again, with the associated cast time for Soar.
Why is this different from how Running Wild works for Worgen? Worgen stay in “mounted” form when they stop running, right? Druids stay in flight form even when they land on the ground, or in ground travel form even when they stop running, so I’m confused why it’s not the same for Dracthyr.
Soar actually has a built in bonus - when you “mount up” (use the ability), you automatically get a boost in the air without spending any vigor.
So, while it may not be great for gathering, it’s actually better for general dragonflying than anything else.
I’m happy the Dracthyr are enjoying their wings
I’m also happy the Demon Hunters aren’t
This is my irritation. I didn’t need the takeoff animation. They could’ve just left that out and allowed us to just be dynamic flight.
But it’s still nice to finally fly ourselves.
I have not used a flying mount since patch went live
Yeah, it does make the ‘gather while mounted’ skillpoint useless on my gatherer. Other than that, it’s cool to be my own mount.
It’s just super annoying that it’s different, honestly. You get used to how other races work with Dragonriding, and Dracthyr are different, so it messes with muscle memory and such. And it’s especially annoying because based on how Worgen and druids work, it shouldn’t be this way at all. Just some random changes for unknown reasons.
My first proper flight on my dracthyr gave me trauma (I’m being hyperbolic, but it honestly went excruciating poorly to the point I have not taken flight again in that manner).
Nothing will ever beat a Druid for gathering.
Yeah that launch saves you a vigor. I like it.
You took off under a tree, didn’t you?
If you’re gathering, just use another mount. Non-druid herbalists are used to doing this with the sky golem.
No, what happened is I walked out of the main inn in Valdrakken, took off towards the giant mountain east of Valdrakken, had my momentum almost halted upon leaving the city (a bug that’s been in since season 1 with dracthyr’s soar), flew around some to recoup my vigor, landed to pick a titan-touched herb, got into combat with the Pleasant Alpha (which is aggressive despite the name) while responding to someone in guild chat, tried to kill it but had so much lag between me pressing buttons and things actually happening that it was absurd despite having latency in the 30s, tried to close the game, had to alt-f4, tried getting back on my dracthyr, got stuck in the loading screen, repeated those steps from alt-f4, gave up, pulled the character unstuck self-service page, and probably waited about 20 minutes until I could get them unstuck (IDK I did some things including LFR Fyrakk) because I guess they were getting a lot of traffic for self-services, and when I could finally use the character unstuck, my dracthyr was free.
Should have done a better job exterminating you Eredar.
Yes I finally feel like a dragon on my dracthyr. It’s so exciting. I flew from UC to stormwind in just under three minutes this morning no stopping. It’s amazing. Clipping dracthyr’s wings at the beginning the way they did was just a mistake. It took so much away from the feeling of being a dragon.
Many argue that dracthyr aren’t dragons but they are. They may not be specific to any flight but the blood of the black dragon flight runs in their veins. They are dragons.
This is OT but I wish they would explain how. HOW was neltharion able to create a flight of dragons who can use the magic of all five flights without those flights even knowing about it ??
Perhaps in theory Tyr gave Neltharion secret orders that we don’t know about, or replicating an aura effect the mother oath stone emits then transfusioned in a lab setting?
Idk I like changing back when I hit the ground it feels kinda epic like you’re making a grand entrance lol.
Now THIS is Pod Racing.
I was super scared about the 10 second cooldown but the fact that it ticks down WHILE flying is an absolutely amazing thing. My lizard will never use a mount again that’s for damn sure.
Now if only we could use Soar during the Tindral fight and if we could use Soar for dragonriding races…then it would be absolutely perfect.
As for lore on how Neltharion was able to make the dracthyr, the new book does go into a bit of detail about it. He was extra super special secretive about it in Aberrus the whole way through, and was hoping they’d help him combat the void corruption in his head, only for his plans to fall completely apart when one of the dragons who were kidnapped as a proto-dragon egg and turned into our kinds of dragon against their will WHILE still in the shell (remember, dragon hatchlings are aware of the world around them even in the egg, as Wrathion said back in Cataclysm), defected and told Razszageth to aim at The Oathbinder on Neltharion’s arm. He panicked and sealed the Dracthyr away after giving in to the whispers thinking he screwed up big time, especially when he reminded himself that the Dracthyr were special supersoldiers made for the explicit purpose of killing dragons bigger than they are.
The Twilight Dragonflight (And to an extent Nefarian’s chromatic dragonflight plan) was basically a non-mortal-mix version of the same plan trying to be made again. It followed the same principle, find scales/blood/dna (or in Twilight and Chromatic cases live specimens) and put them in a secret research lab somewhere underground that only his most trusted confidants can find. Aberrus was not known by many back then, just like how the Twilight Hatchery in Bastion of Twilight was also a secret chamber (only found on Heroic too, remember the Sinestra fight?)
Also back during the Dracthyr plans, Neltharion was uncontested and 110% trusted by every other aspect and dragonflight around him, why would they even look for a secret lab?
