I would have to dig through old coverage from Blizzcon to get the exact quote but they said no pathfinder just max level and main storyline. I plan to rush through that then go back and do side stuff with static flying.
All of the accessibility options added to the game along with the accessibility surveys and research studies Iāve been part of say otherwise.
So just picked up the xpac last night and started questing. Still sticking with boycotting dynamic flying to see how tough it is.
Spoilers here, I guess, for anyone not yet leveled, at least at the beginning.
So far, so good. Itās definitely slower, and I dare say more annoying (finally figured out how the whole āfocus questā thing exists and thatās helped ā I do like it better!). I like that they added an option to take a taxi over after the portion to fly through the rings.
Currently at the mine and of course itād take half a second to fly up and over to the alternate entrance, but on ground, you need to go all the way around. Iām hoping this is the worst of it (slow, annoying) as opposed to virtually impossible. It does pain me to pass up the gathering nodes on top of the blocks unreachable without flying, but I suppose I can always get them later.
More to come.
Note for the āvirtue signalingā accusers, et. al. - feel free to mute this thread. Replying to it just pushes it to the top.
Can we stop with the āBut AFKā¦ā canard? Thereās no validity to it and no reason for anyone to care. People just canāt seem to mind their own business and ignore what doesnāt concern them.
Iād be fine if they made the mount slowly descend while stationary if thatās the actual problem. Not sure what others think, but my primary concern is those who literally canāt use dynamic flying, not afkers.

Yea, Iām likely doing stuff I donāt need to do. Iām not just doing the major questlines only, Iām just playing the game as I normally would.
I AFK in stealth all the time. Next time I should make a macro announcing what I am doing but that defeats the point of stealth.
Latest updates:
Still going ok, still on the Isle of Dorn (been pacing myself).
I wasnāt sure if Iād be able to complete The Earthwound quest, but a quick search around found a way up to the mob
Pulse Within the Earth is a pain to get to the topmost rock
Unrelated to the mount, but I found the Rookery with followers really jankyā¦ it was confusing and buggy, specifically the Kyrioss fight. Also annoying that stealth was constantly being broken before pulls
Getting to Boroughbreaker from Dornogal was painful.
So, lots of needing to run around to find the way up/down without using flying. Itās definitely taking longer, and probably a fairly considerable amount, but so far everything has been doable.
Update:
Well, since I canāt add another post since nobody has replied yet (I guess thatās new, even though itās been hours), Today I ran into the Manifesto Destiny quest. It appears that you HAVE to use a flying mount on this one and that thereās no auto-fly mount. Not only that, itās part of the campaign. Am I missing something or did they really do this?
Why would I want tbc flying after reaching max level? That would mean Iāve done all the quests and gotten all the flight paths and explored the zones why would I really need it at this point?
Probably done on purpose. Did you find a way to finish the quest
Unfortunately, the only way I could see to complete it was to use a (dynamic) flying mount. I tried on foot, with ground mounts, and just running around with a flying mount on the ground, but it wouldnāt trigger.
EDIT: Not to mention that Iāve also been doing this with a stealth class. If I tried this with someone who couldnāt stealth, Iād probably have died many times if I didnāt clear entire paths through to go through all the trial and error of finding paths to where quests lead to. e.g. Hallowfall Rally on the Dawnbreaker.
The experience between being able and not being able to fly is quite a gap in terms of time and difficulty.
EDIT 2: Actually, I donāt know if thereās a way aboard the Dawnbreaker without flying eitherā¦ so that may be another one (still searching)
EDIT 3: Nevermind! Found the way, finally.
Dragonfly or die. There wasnāt any point in it except to make people do skyriding.
That is the whole argument we have been saying for some time.
Steady flying aka TBC normal flying should never be gated by pathfinder.
Flying is a tool and not a reward.
Traversing Hallowfall has been a bit painful. Iām glad there is a blimp, but I didnāt see it at first, and was wondering how I was going to cross the giant chasm to Mereldar. Thankfully I saw it circling and it eventually came over to where I was. There werenāt any zeppelin masters like in Tirisfal or Org, it justā¦ shows up.
Note to self: donāt take the portals when overloading an herb. It may just take forever to get back to where you were.
I do have some good news: I think weāve gotten through to Blizzard, at least somewhat. I was actually able to use static flying without finishing the campaign! The only caveat to that is that you have to be dead. (I died jumping into the Breathing Pit)
Jokes aside, Iām now 78 and in Azj-Kahet. So hopefully not much longer to unlock.
I unlocked it as soon as I could. I finished the storyline, and did the exploring at lvl 76.
I did start out doing a lot more than just the campaign quests, mostly to try to mimic my normal playstyle, but after Dorn I was like āeff itā.
I got to 76 at the end of the champaign quests, then did the exploring, and bam! done. I finished questing and gathering up to lvl 80. I am doing the same with my second. She is currently lvl 77.
Good work all but we need to send the message loud and clear.
Patchfinder is not acceptable. TBC normal flying should never be gated every again.
So I completed the campaign but it still says I need War Within Pathfinder to switch flying styles?
EDIT: Oh nevermind, I need to explore I guess. Yay.
So finally completed exploration thanks to some helpful waypoints from Wowhead comments. Ringing Deeps had me running around a lot since the map looks like itās undiscoveredā¦ much better to just track the achievement. Hallowfall was loads of fun waiting around for the zeppelin. Overall it was joyous to run around packs of mobs and get dismounted so that I could reach an arbitrary point.
So thatās completed Pathfinder for me. The process probably took at least 3x longer, if I had to estimate, based on speed, circuitous routing, any deaths that couldāve been avoided, etc. Though my time was quicker than normal with a stealth class.
And still we have zero answers from Blizzard as to why.
