I’m not here to ask for my character back. I’m here to say the fact that there is no DC protection built into the game is complete garbage.
I’ve lost more than one character to my internet going out, and I understand that my internet going out isn’t Blizzard fault in any way, but it’s the only ISP in my area so I don’t have other choices.
My most recent death is by far the most annoying. I was playing a shaman doing the drowned reef quests, I had water breathing on (I kept a stack of fish scale and oil on me at all times), and was headed towards the surface because work had called. I was above the surface of the water when my ISP decided it was time for a nap (or at least I thought I was but my internet may have gone prior to making it to the surface). When I disconnected I still had water breathing on, and I thought, whatever there is no way I will die since I’m at the surface and even if something went wrong I have water breathing on.
I check discord 5min later to see that one of my guildies posted a death message from me drowning. I thought this was crazy because for sure the game wouldn’t leave my body sitting there logged in for that long after I disconnect, so I made a new character and test how long it takes to drown, 1 minute 15 seconds. That means the game left me logged in for a few minutes sitting in the water after my internet went out.
It’s completely ridiculous that the system can’t detect that you’ve disconnected and remove you from the world within a reasonable amount of time. I’m not saying it needs to be immediate, or even 20 seconds like a normal logout, but leaving you sitting there unable to do anything for multiple minutes is just garbage.

Sometimes life isn’t fair.
Death never is.

i heard that a petri potion of something can solve problems and make you sit in game unable to do anything unless you alt f4 out and in less than 30 seconds you are back in the game without any dings or dents
Unrelated, but can’t petri potion when my internet goes out for 30min leaving me unable to get back in game.

the randomness of loss of connectivity adds a new layer of fun. We should all be so lucky to have spotty internet!
I dont want to see them changing anything since it would lessen the victory of hitting 60 on a single life realm. Others have done this in the past/today and probably tomorrow, i just want to get that sweet victory untainted.
I’ve decided to not put myself in that position and just play reg classic. If I level a character without dying “Yeah!”.

You could set up some kind of random timer, when it goes off hit alt-F4.
edit: Never mind, I thought you wanted more of a chance to DC.

The game should log a DC character out within 60 seconds.
It keeping you logged in long enough to drowned with a waterbreathing spell on you is stupid.
Im not saying you should be immune to death from a dc, but surely we can all agree you should be logged out within a minute.

No one’s online that long.
My power company decided to flip the power 3x in one night, 5x over the weekend.
I sent them a letter demanding they reimburse me for lost gold.

That’s cool I guess, but I’m not asking to be reimbursed for anything. I just think Blizzard’s system for logging people out when they are DC’d is garbage.
Weird stuff happens sometimes.
On my Bloodsail HC character I took a flight path into IF one morning and got up to make breakfast. I came back to see that I had been DC’d. Logging back in I had the Deathlog addon “yelling” at me that I had 10 un-recorded minutes of playtime.
So apparently it DC’d me to the point that the addon stopped collecting data but didn’t completely knock me out of the game for ~10 min.
Fortunately it didn’t matter since I was just sitting at the IF flightmaster, but I have no idea what happened.
I was in the kitchen making pancakes.
Hardcorpse has a reduced online time after you DC.
I see, though I’d still never trust it to work correctly every time.
This is Blizz after all and I’ve seen odder things happen with DC’s.
The only thing I can think of is if OPs game desysnced from the server before their internet cut out and it was just overall bad timing.
I was running around Stormwind a couple of weeks ago for 3+ minutes chat was still moving, I was talking to party members and only after I mentioned a quest giver was missing did someone in my group tell me they saw me running in place no where near Stormwind Keep.
After about another minute or two of waiting for the game to d/c me, nothing ever happened so I just alt f4d out.
I’d like to see where Blizzard said they added reduced online time after you DC to Hardcore, because I keep seeing people say that.
I just tested it with my wife’s account, from the time I pulled the ethernet out of the back of her computer, to the time she disappeared was 3minutes and 15 seconds.
