Dye system

The way the armor sets are made and displayed in game means dyes would never work. They would need to make a piece of armor for every single color, databases have their limits.

All my armors will look like

In order to make clothes dye friendly, they would have to make the textures with big areas of all the same color. There couldn’t be any nuance or intricate designs, because you have to leave spaces to be re-colored.

Sounds like a good idea for crafted armor.

Give crafted armor it’s own models instead of being a recolor, and those models are made to be colored however you want.

If we had a dye system, everyone would be running around in black armor with red variations with white hair.

GW2 doesnt use same texture system than WoW. GW1 had a dye system due to Section on your armor being placeholder. But WoW system use a Paint + Baking System. Top be able to do that it mean changing their whole way of doing Armor. Its duable if they rework all their system and armor.

Yes that’s what we want.

Set a date and a tier of loot and make armor that way from then on.

Re-make old armors as time allows.

If we were a mature civilized society we could have an editing interface and pixel our own maps…
… and we could sell them with in game gold sort of how was done in Sims or Spore.

Let it be a venue for players be creative…

… but yeah… I don’t think we can be trusted with THAT much creative freedom. Lol

Edit: Actually… maybe… if the ability to do so is licensed to trusted artist players… and a way to report offensive art… I dunno, I always think too much…

Edit 2: Then again artists shade things differently… different art styles would clash… but maybe… if the shading was already set and the artist only adds color information… the color palette would need to have the same brightness for all colors… ugghh… headache…

It’s not possible without rebuilding the armor system and that honestly would be a massive waste of developmental resources. Do we really want to lose new content to some unnecessary vanity system?

What they should do is add more recolors of the good looking gear sets.

I would love this, however it would require a MASSIVE overhaul of how armor textures work, and every single item in the game would need to be modified to accept dye and determine which parts received color 1, 2, etc. It’s simply too big of an undertaking, so there’s zero chance they will put the necessary developer time towards it when there are many more things for them to work on.

That’s not perfect at all

You know what is? Warframe dye system.

Mmmmm Black Dye.

Which unfortunately would be the most popular armor choice by a longshot.

You have also played Phantasy Star Online 2 where they allow custom emote image boxes?

I think it would be cool if they looked at the most popular gear used for transmog and created alternate colors of them and released them as crafted gear.

Is this a serious question or…?

Sure if you want the armor styles to be limited as it is every MMO which has one.

Options of this type are difficult in Warcraft, because as already mentioned, it is not something available due to the way the game was created.

I wish I could add different details to my clothes.

Maybe in the future.

I think a paint/dye system takes away because everything would look so random, you’d never really know what anyone is carrying at a glance. As it stands now, at least in the loading screen, you can tell what pieces you have and if your running a good PC you can also tell what other people have, making collecting the really cool stuff that much more important.

If I could just colour my stuff to look cool instead of going out to get the cool things, maybe it wouldn’t matter to me?? who knows, that’s just a random thought; I like that tabards exist to create difference, but I don’t really like the idea of colouring armor however you want. In my opinion it takes away more than it gives, and every PVP character will be running a form of black/camo.

I’m not totally against the idea, I’m just not sure if I like it. Sorry for the late reply, it came up in google when I looked up if you can dye armor in WoW.

It turns out this is only half the population the rest are neon green, orange and pink with purple hair.

they talked about it… gave a BS answer about how the multiple layers on the armors would be to hard to work around…
even tho the community then went " hey not a issue, we can do it and we arnt million dollar company "
but blizz still says naaaa fammmm
