I don’t usually think much about Dwarves. They are, after all, in the small and select list of WoW Humanoid Species I wouldn’t date lol
But today I was thinking about Dwarves. They are the result of the Earthen being taken by the Blessing of Flesh (or the “Curse of Flesh” if you hate flesh).
Yet they can just will themselves into Earthenness whenever they want, and that’s so weird!
Do they just get to decide to push the whole flesh magic thing aside?
And that’s a tad unique, isn’t it? Gnomes can’t just will themselves into robotness. Humans can’t just turn into Vrykuls (unless they have that toy that turns you into a Vrykul).
Why are Dwarves capable of resisting the Blessing of Flesh? What’s special about them?
Arguably it’s a result of their connection to the Titans, something they’ve actually explored in depth as opposed to most Humans or Gnomes. The Mechagnomes haven’t so much explored that connection as simply tried to find ways to emulate what they used to be. The Dwarves have actually dug into the earth, explored Titan facilities, etc…
The RPGs even had a dwarven order called the Sisters of Steel that was based off of this. The Sisters of Steel also included some Gnome and Human members as well, so this wasn’t just a Dwarf thing.

Granted the RPGs are non-canon and no mention of this organization has ever been found in game. At least, none that I’m aware of, and none listed on their wowpedia page.
Honest answer, dunno? I love it as a bit of flavor, considering dwarf lore gets lost in the shuffle a lot. Closest next to this oddity would be dark irons, who can light themselves on fire, and orcs who can give in to the blood frenzy.
Maybe it’s that dwarves haven’t been disconnected from the earth that long? Need to check the lore…2,500 years ago. Never mind, no clue.
I like the theory they get so hammered they forget they have the curse.
But in all seriousness, I always interpreted it that WoW Dwarfs have a special connection with the earth and I guess by extension Azeroth herself. So she may very well be the source of their ability to shift into stoneform.
