Dwarven “Thane” and Undead “Revenant” (mirrored classes)

I’ve been giving these ideas a lot of thought. I REALLY enjoyed Gregory’s story for Paladins, but I still can’t quite get behind the idea of an undead paladin (breaks a lot of very important lore).

Thus my solution; the Undead “Revenant”

As a small and budding order being established by none of the Gregory, he instructs newly animated Forsaken in the ways of the Silver Hand. However, as a plagued being of undeath, he is no longer able to wield the Light in the way he once could when he was a Paladin, long before he abandoned his faith and became a Death Knight.

Yet despite their obvious inferiority to proper Paladins of the Silver Hand, Revenants are those who aspire to the very same ideals. A sense of justice, a journey to find some measure of dignity, even grace, despite their unenviable circumstances.

Where their abilities are mechanically identical to Paladins, I would alter the artwork and descriptions of various spells. I’m leaning more monochromatic, where they aren’t wielding “the Light” so much as a more vague concept of spiritual powers. Paladins might view Revenants as kindred spirits, survivors just trying to carve out a new meaning in life, or some (notably the Scarlet Crusade) may view Revenants as an abomination.

My thinking;

It’s a solution that provides what is mechanically identical to a Paladin, and maintains the overall FEEL of a Paladin, but in a way that is super lore friendly.

Now we’ve had Wildhammer Shamans since Cataclysm, but I actually landed on a very different, but I think very cool idea:

The Dwarven Thane.

Instead of embodying the elements in the primitive, primal way that Horde Shamans do, Thanes would lean very specifically into the shared history of the clans in the distant past. Frost would the tundra of Dun Morogh which is home to the Bronzebeard clan, Fire would obviously represent the lava and magma floes of the Dark Iron’s home, and Air/Lightning would represent the skies the Wildhammer storm-riders fly.

For Earth, obviously some connection to the Earthen or even just that Dwarves all share a love for mountains.

For the Thanes’ counterpart to the Spirit of the Wild (often represented by animals), I would instead have it represented by Gemstones, a deep love for most Dwarves but is rarely shown.

I feel like both the Thane and the Revenant are cool, fun new takes on classes people obviously want to go cross-faction.

I dunno, I dig these ideas…
