Is there any good reason to have more than one character who can be any specific profession?
Like, once I have a miner, is there any good reason to make another miner?

Multiple alchemists for transmutation of old materials, possibly.
Not having to relog to mine is a good reason. All of my characters except my tailors have the gathering profession that goes with their crafting one.
Alchemy gives each character double flask duration.
Engineering gives ports all over the world
Blacksmithing can repair their own gear for free
Engineering is just QoL central all around.
Yeah all of my characters are always an engineer.
Mainly for portals and jeeves

One character could be a Blacksmith and having mining lets them source their own material, one can be a jewelcrafter and again mining lets them source their own material, then you got engineering which also needs mining. Then inscription and alchemy both require herbalism, leatherworking demands skinning… tailoring and enchanting can be mixed as you can tailor stuff then disenchant them for enchanting materials. Some people do purely gathering professions with plans to either supply their other characters with bonus materials or sell mats on the AH and make big money. Personally I kinda wish gathering professions were made secondary so we could have all three and two crafting ones as they’re now demanding materials from gathering skills or other professions in many of the crafting skills now.
I duplicate gatherers on my alts, mining, skinning, etc. but never main professions. It would be too overwhelming. For one I want to go back to previous xpacs and max those profs. It’s takIng me years to do it. Couldn’t face it on two alts.
nitro boosts and gliders come up more than you’d think as well
For crafting professions, no. There’s no reason to have multiples barring very niche situations. But multiple gatherers are always good. Always have been and always will be. I kind of consider enchanting a gathering profession, I disenchant all the soulbound junk I end up with and give it to a real enchanter.
not really but I have four miners, 2 herbalists and 3 skinners so just doing the weekly KP gets me enough mats for all my crafters to do their weeklies.
Crafting professions having more than one, allows you to go different routes on the trees. I find them more useful not less than gathering. For eg. one blacksmith does weapons and another blacksmith gear. One leatherworker mail gear the other leatherworker leather gear. You could even add a third or forth.
It’s sometimes a little hard for me to wrap my mind around that the professions are locked down given I am used to being an omni-crafter in FFXIV… So I’d love to see even something like this even if it was just with gatherers lol.
On one hand I kind of get the intention to create a unique environment by doing that for gathering classes, but on the other hand locking it off as done is really just helpful for the botters because its irrelevant to them if they use a QoL (gathering fills the slot of a crafting class that would bring QoL). Even if it was a sort of warband feature where like if you reach max rank in an expansion you can activate mentor mode and it shares that gathering profession / set up.
On the crafting specs… Personally, and I am coming as an outsider perspective, I’d like to see time gated concepts for crafting adjusted / removed in a way that doesn’t make it so you essentially need another character for the same profession concept- the specs can remain and so you can specialize but more ‘easily’ omni-spec.
Not really for gathering professions I suppose, but I use them for crafting professions. Particularly ones with cool downs that I can burn inspiration on.
I used to do that but the changes that made it so you didn’t always get the blue or purple shard made me rethink that. Now I only have 4 (one for each armor type) to handle the BoA tokens. Now I have several dual gatherers.
I do have a couple duplicate profs because I have alts on 2 servers. If they ever allowed xrealm orders I’d drop them. ![]()

I have a bunch of characters and they are all miners and herbalists because I don’t like the way they changed professions and the two gathering professions gave xp while leveling. I end up with a ton of mats to sell on the ah.
You can get around daily crafting limits (Old transmutations, for example) but outside of that I don’t see a good reason to do so.
Guuah’s an Engineer, and in TWW thus far I don’t see a reason to have another save for the Wormhole. It’s not worth dodging the CD for Invent and Box Of Booms.
If you’re gonna be out and about on a character without crafting professions, why not give them mining and herbing? Then they can make you some extra gold while you’re doing weeklies or traveling to delves or whatever it is you’re doing.
