Duo Queue: Needs to Be Fixed/Tweaked

Duo queue is both good and bad for BG Blitz. Although it encourages teamwork and healers to queue, it also creates a path to exploit MMR and RMTs.

I’ve played over 300 games of BG Blitz and I’ve never seen a “premade.” I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen the same player on my team or the opposing team. However, I have seen very high CR healers (2500+) in 1500 MMR games, which would only happen if duo-queued with an extremely low MMR partner. This causes big problems for people in the 1500 MMR range since the value of a 2500 healer far surpasses the downside of a low MMR DPS.

It also isn’t fair to the high end brackets if a 2500 healer is farming 2-6 point wins by exploiting MMR with a friend who is paying money for a carry or playing with an intentionally tanked MMR. The goal of the 2500 player is to play is lower competition, increasing win chance.

I doubt Blizz will remove duo queue, so the question what are some alternative options?

  1. The team MMR should match the highest MMR in the group; OR
  2. The highest MMR should count for a greater proportion of the MMR depending on the difference between the lowest MMR. So, for example, a 2500 MMR player queueing with a 1000 MMR player might be slotted into the 2200 bracket.

One of these two options would prevent most of the MMR exploiting that appears to be happening.

It also would: 1) force high MMR players into the brackets where they belong; and 2) preserve more fairness at the lower end brackets.

There already doesn’t seem to be very many players to begin with. This is a good idea to discourage boosting but it’ll also punish the serious player from just playing a bit more casually with a friend that isn’t as good. To your point, my duo partner and I get punished just as hard when we lose on a team with a few 2000+ and the rest 1400. There isn’t much we can do without a bigger pool of players; the design kind of has to be more inclusive.

Okay so would you rather have longer queues into games with people your actual MMR

or queue into games where a player who is capable of 2.7k rating hasnt played yet, his mmr is 0 and queues with a 2.7k rated player, giving them a 1350 lobby?

I would rather have longer queues than lose to 2 gladiators at 1400 mmr

I understand your point. Personally while I would love to be able to progress fairly, I would rather be able to queue and play a game quickly. PVE is too boring for me to kill time and I prefer a world where I’m waiting 1 to 2 min per queue. I would love to play more Solo Shuffle, for instance, but I just can’t deal with 30 min queues.

Team MMR is averaged within a range and also effects rating win/loss amounts.

Needs to be removed. But they won’t do that because its the only way for boosters to sell carries. Also boosters queueing healers means faster queues for everyone. Won’t happen.

RBGB consistently shows player numbers very close to, and sometimes higher than 3s.

it’s a rating system, not a progression system. Progression is not guaranteed.

We don’t disagree here. The rating is intended to match like-skilled players which obviously can’t be guaranteed either. My argument is that a larger player pool would increase (but not guarantee) the likelihood of an appropriate matchmaking.

I concede that this is a generally true statement and without a look into actual player counts its certainly possible that there are plenty of players and matchmaking is fine. I tend to see the same players over the course of a few hours of playtime.

There’s no “tweaking” it needs to be straight up removed.

There’s no redeeming options for duo specially for a mode that is supposed to be ENTIRELY SOLO.

Well, what a tremendous injustice that they have put a horrible Duo Queue on us but in solo shuffle not.

A 2500 healer duo queuing into placement games to farm single digit point wins sounds great on paper when you aren’t considering that said player would lose like 200 points on a loss, totally erasing dozens of wins worth of gains while also tanking their MMR.

Eventually they’re going to get an unfavorable map for carrying, with some manner of woeful lobotomized team, and all those micro gains evaporate.

Duo queue is antithetical to the very premise of bgb. The idea is that it is solo queue, ranked.

It should be removed. People are free to duo queue in Randoms or play 3’s or do the lame premade bs in Randoms.

Why this was ever an option for a solo queue ranked is beyond me.

Good thing it isn’t. Never was.

Players will be able to queue either solo or as a duo (if one player is a healer)
