Duo leveling class

So a friend and I are picking classes for classic. She’s down picking between a hunter and paladin. So I’m trying to decide on a class that complements her choice.

My choices are mage, warlock (would be affliction, MAYBE some demo), balance druid, or priest (most likely shadow).

We are playing Alliance, if it matters.

If there was an intended question I would answer with:

Paladin/Warlock OR
Hunter/Priest

Paladin/Warlock has the best synergy, including both getting free mounts at 40.

Trying to score those cool points to get into this girls knickers?
Wont work if you pick somethng to compliment her. Pick what you want and have her suport you. otherwise enjoy friendzone

I realized afterward that I worded that terribly, so thank you for replying!

I didn’t play classic personally, just had a friend that played that I would watch occasionally.

How is the synergy with hunter & paladin with mage? And is the lack of synergy with mage compared to lock/priest worth trading those out to have portal? I wasn’t sure how useful the portal was during classic, even though you don’t get the actual portal until 40+.

Id say warlock for both.
If she goes hunter youll both have tank pets, so one of you could go a dps one or roll two tanks and pull massive piles of mobs. Tons of damage so wont be a issue there.

If she goes pally youll have a tank pet still and all the pally utility for the voidwalker if it ever needs. Youll need some damage so lock can provide that no sweat. You will also be great for dungeons as she could heal or maybe tank and you could summon. Thats a huge advantage for a duo group youll have no sweat finding groups.

For the love of the LIGHT dont go balance druid! Druid is fine overall but balance just doesnt pull its weight in vanilla for many reasons. Please dont gimp yourself that hard even for flavor reasons. I know in some cases flavor is more important but there is limits to even that value.

Hunter & Paladin with Mage? Thats 3 players so I will assume you mean Hunter with Mage and Paladin with Mage.

Hunter/Mage are good synergy especially if you plan to play on a PvP server, a lot of control and a lot of damage from range.

Paladin with Mage doesn’t have a lot of synergy, not as much as Warlock/Paladin. Doesn’t mean you can’t play it, just about any 2 classes are completely doable.

Here is a video if you are needing something to do while waiting for launch. Kargoz did a couple of duo levelling videos. This is rather long so someone has timestamps in the responses, like the 3rd response.

easily Hunter/Lock… great synergy for pvp and leveling…

Tank paladin with mage isnt terrible. Pally gathers a herd, keeps em all bunched up while mage aoes it down. Only disadvantage is the need for both to eat/drunk frequently. Lock hunter is gonna be a stupid easy level duo. Neither will have much/any downtime and one with tank pet one with dps means things will rarely get outta hand, and if on pvp server thats two ranged control classes, shouldnt have much issue with ganks

Paladin is it’s own duo class. Paladin + Paladin works great in all situations lol.

hunter and paladin are about as polar opposite as it gets, so that makes it hard to answer

there are bad duos, rogues and warriors can actually slow down the faster classes

And be speed up by them. Duo levelling is advantageous for slower levelling classes like Paladin. Paladin/Warlock while strong, will not be as fast as a solo Warlock. It’s a give and take world and is only useful for people who are generally friends/mates outside of the game.

Hunter/Hunter is slower than Hunter simply because you have brought another person into the equation. A person who needs breaks and such that will likely, at least at times, conflict with your own. This will slow you down, and you will likely slow him/her down. Duo levelling is primarily useful to pick someone up who is the slower levelling class/build.

My brother played a Mage back in Classic along with my Paladin.

This was an amazing duo! We could AoE packs of mobs down! I remember pulling 15+ mobs at a time in East Plaguelands. Just pop Consecration, Judgement of Light and Holy Shield on cooldown. Keep Blessing of Sanctuary up also, a lot of your damage is going to come from blocking. Shield spikes help a lot also.

Spiritual Focus talent along with Concentration aura will help a lot also. You can spam flash of light on yourself between consecration and holy shield casts to keep yourself up while your mage friend kills them with his AoEs.

However this is a late game scenario. Paladin can’t really AoE grind until around 40 (as you point out with the location).

Prot Pally for AoE tanking in 5 mans with a frost mage for AoE DPS. Youll roll through everything.

Thank you for the detailed answer!

Where does mage fit into it? Like I mentioned, I didn’t play vanilla. Would me going mage be worth it at all for the ports? I know the lock also has soulstone and what not for the free revive if I put the SS on her (if she went pally) so there’s some utility, and also the pets like you mentioned. I just wasn’t sure if the mage utility of having the ports would be worth it over something like the free lock mount.

Just play the class you want. If its not fun then who cares if they work well together

Yeah I honestly enjoy all of them. And I’m sure I’ll end up playing all of them in the long run, so that’s why I asked for help. I get it though and I should have mentioned that in the OP.

If she goes Paladin and you enjoy PVPing together, you could roll Warrior. Outside of that, anything works in the long run. Even two paladins, especially two hunters, etc.

Paladin mage. Dps and water plus heals.
