Is it acceptable to use an alt or other player to help reset a dungeon when the team logs out?
I don’t know if this has been covered.

As long as it’s a full reset and you start back at the entrance then you’re probably good. They added instance reset limits for this reason, 5 resets an hour I believe.
The problem is when you find a way to reset and easily skip large portions of the instance that weren’t intended to be skipped.
You can just right click your unit frame and reset all instances from there as long as you’re standing outside of instances.
I hear some people say that this is acceptable, so say it’s not. I would like to know the official position on it. I think it’s okay. I mean you’re just doing the instance again.
There is nothing wrong with fully resetting an instance, Blizzard themselves gave us the option to do it.
The issue a lot of people have is using layer swapping to reset a particular boss and not the whole instance.
If you want an official position then search the forums or the internet for it. The chances of a community manager seeing this and replying to it are pretty small.
I have heard that converting to raid, having a buddy reset (say Mara Princess runs) while team is logged out, which ports you back to beginning of inner mara is bannable. This doesnt sound right to me… this seems fine. But, I am worried about “breakign the rules”
If you are in the instance and invite a extra member to layer swap you, to reset a boss to just farm that boss over and over, that’s not allowed, and Blizzard has clarified and cracked down on this exploit.
If you intend on doing the entire instance again, that is fine, but not with raids, only dungeons.
